Duo PLD and ???

All,

Buddy of mine and I are going to start up ffxi again till ffxiv comes out.. He has chosen to run as a PLD and I am a bit stuck on what to choose.

I was thinking maybe DRG for dps and a bit of heals... Thoughts?

However both PLD and DRG are jobs one must quest for and cannot open the quest until you have one job up to 30... maybe you already know that... just FYI

Personally I'd proly go with PLD and THF, lol... at least he'll always get you into all the party's who clammor to have him as tank and whilst duo'n you might make some gilz... and... I'm always a Thf

My RDM is at 52 as well as whm/blm to 38....

I agree that I am going to need to DD but, I didn't know if I should DD as an ???/DNC or roll a SMN.. I have been out of the game for two years..

DRG acting as a back-up healer is not really an option until 60+ when you can use your Wyvern Helm to trigger breaths at 50% HP. Prior to that it's just unrealistic. It works for soloing to an extent before that, but there are better jobs for acting as a back-up heal + DPS, like RDM or DNC. Both of those jobs can work together with a PLD extremely well.

Blue mage would be a better balance between healing and damage than the jobs already mentioned, if you're willing to put in the extra work to farm spells. Just make sure you both always have FoV/sanction/sigil refresh on.

Can you duo FoVs? Just both start the Fov and complete them together?

What would you suggest as the sub for blu?
What would you suggest as the sub for dnc?

Blu would be Thf, War, or Ninja. Ninja is the main sub due to Utsusemi. But, with /Thf, you can Split up SA, and TA to deal some fairly nice damage, and you wont need to worry about pulling hate off your Pld buddy as well.

For Dnc, either /nin, or /thf as well for later levels as it will give you SATA to use on weapon skills for soem nice damage. And you can pull with a ranged weapon as well in case there are lots of aggro, or links. You can also reverse flourish as well to get some extra TP for when you do WEapon skill. And you can Solo SC too.

By the way, what server are you on? Maybe I ca help you get started up again, if you are on alexander.

I would suggest Bst (maybe /whm) because Bst is f-ing awesome…but when duo-ing with a Pld, you’ll (or he I should say) will probably miss out on those o’so important skills (Shield and maybe parry).

I’ve duod on pup a lot…might be a viable option.

We where talking about Duo, its almost the same thing. If the pld holds hate, you can go /thf for the extra dmg. But solo, yea, you go /nin.

My opinions are probably biased... since the jobs I'm going to suggest are ones that I play... but hell... here goes.

SMN/BLM or COR/RNG

SMN might pose a bit of a problem, especially if you have yet to unlock it. I persoanlly find it to be one of the most fun jobs in the game to play. You can solo... pull (hate free I might add)... DD... heal... buff and do just about anything. I've found that no matter what job I'm duoing with, I always have fun.

COR is really easy to unlock if you have access to WG and know your way around the surrounding zones. It's my new obscession as of late. As far as duoing... Once you get past lvl22 you can effectively DD, buff and with/whm... heal a bit. If your friend is playing PLD though... you might consider /rng (DMG), /dnc (Support) or /nin (Pulling/Survivability). With access to things like Hunter's Roll, Chaos Roll, Evoker's Roll and {/sigh} Corsair's Roll, you have a great duo partner for any occasion. Ultimately its really up to you... but with PLD's ability to be reletively self-sufficient... any duo partner would be a good choice.

Considering you have RDM already above lvl50 I would honestly suggest you just stick with that ---> 75. RDM is a highly demanded job from 50-75 and ALWAYS in EG senarios. You could also look forward to a lot of PT invites together. SMN is unfortunately situational... so you might be looking at a lot of {Hmmm} {May} {Bee} or just plain {Summoner} {No Thanks}. Corsiar... as I'm learning the hard way is a huge money sink job. If you don't have a lot of cash to littlerally shoot off... I wouldn't suggest you take it up.

Depends. For max damage you'd want to go with /thf for SA or /nin for blink and DW as mentioned, and /war or /mnk are solid until you get those job abilities, but think about using /whm also depending on where you're going and what you're fighting. Status cures can obviously be crucial especially when there are just two of you, and divine seal works on healing blue magic spells as well.

For BLU, /nin all the way, /thf isn't viable till past level 60 really. Another decent sub for blu is whm for some extra MP and the Clear Mind trait.

DNC benefits from /mnk up until level 20ish, then /nin is best for dual wielding daggers (better accuracy). Thats all from personal experience though, feel free to level as you wish.
