    Re: Worth Coming Back?

Thank you for not taking my post as some sort of hostile response, because i re-read it, and it sorta made me sound all upity, which was not what i wanted.

For real though, i'm glad your still having fun playing ^^ me too. I'm pretty endgame oriented now adays but I still really enjoy getting a kick out of helping my friends, especially with a tough duo/trio/4-man. That stuff alwasy makes me happy.
As far as game play wise, since you do plan on moving to 14 asap, try out beastmaster. and imho, the best way to build to that, is get your whm to level 11, grab a smn burn to get to 23ish in about 1 hr. do the same with Blm then move on to getting your subjob, head to jeuno, get some party invites, and maybe some valkrum dunes solo work and when you hit 30 unlock beastmaster, and play with that some ^^

That's totally just a suggestion of course but it's really really fun to play ^^

In my opinion, unless you already have one to two level 75 jobs and a decent linkshell, then it's not worth it at this stage. :\

So in your opinion, I should just say "screw it" and drop this game that I am enjoying very much right now?

This does not make sense to me. Unless it's an insult. Are you insulting me, Omecle?! Thems fightin' words!

Just go with what you said there and play the game you enjoy the most. If you enjoy playing FFXI, stick with it. Your original post was asking whether or not we think it's worth coming back, you may well think it is worth coming back and with that all I can say if go for it if you enjoy the game .

You also asked for an unbiased opinion (something that Yellow Mage missed). If you want my biased opinion then it would be " Play the bloody game and enjoy it or I will eat you! RAWR FANRAGEFACERIP etc etc!" and "Well aion is casual friendly so if you ever miss it you can still log on for an hour and get things done SO IGNORE IT AND FFXI RAR!"

Don't get me wrong I never said I don't like FFXI, I love FFXI. It's just I'm not having fun with FFXI for the reasons I stated earlier. However just because I don't think the game is fun anymore doesn't mean I don't like it anymore. It's just I wanted something fresh and SE has yet to entice me back with enough shinies (Read: Firewind missed the Mog lotto so will have to instead wait for the next patch that adds even more items that WHMs can't use)

                  Re: Worth Coming Back?

Well summoner burning goes something like this:
(and there are variants but this way is easy and efficent)
                  1 party of :
1- level 11 character, job dosen't matter ( can be 12 or 13, but 11 gets your group the most exp)
3- Smns (they will need shiva, and ramuh as their smns) they will also need atleast 2 hi-ethers each
2- leaches (I.E. people there to benifet from the EXP, preferably either a cor main, or /cor for Corsair's roll)

out side of the party you'll want at least 2 characters, both with phalanx, so pld/rdm, rdm/blm, bard/rdm, just need that phalanx.
                  Step 1:
Both characters with phalanx will go to sections of korroloka tunnel and aggro one each of the following mobs: triple bat, single bat, spider, and leech. Players will run through the zone linking everything they can, while maintaining phalanx to reduce all hits to 0. Phalanx is all you'll ever need, because no mobs down there will hit a level 75 for over what phalanx negates.
                  Step 2:
One of the 2 75 jobs will be the tank and he will pick a spot in the main tunnel and rest with phalanx up. Meanwhile the other "puller" will run by the "tank" and the way aggro works, all enmity will be shed onto the tank, because he was resting.
                  Step 3:
The tank will continue to re-apply phalanx liberly as it overwrites itself, and basically just holds "the stack" in that spot, until almost all of the mobs in korroloka tunnel have been gatherd and are attacking the tank.
                  Step 4:
It get's really really laggy because there are so many mobs, but basically the "puller" will go and grab a mob with the highest HP he can find, either a gigas or the sea monk that hangs out down there, and he will pull it back to the tank.
                  Step 5:
The tank will then sleep the gigas/sea monk, and then "Call for Help" on that mob. it should appear on everyones radar.
The tank will need to spam none damaging spells while the last of the tunnels mobs are gathered, to get at or near the cap for enmity on the CFH mob.
                  Step 6:
At this point all tunnel mobs should be pulled, the CFH mob is sleept and highlighted for everyone and the "SMN burn party" is ready.
Step 7: LEVEL SYNC TO THE LEVEL 11 JOB Throw up Corsair's roll for the exp bonus (5 is lucky, 9 is unlucy, 11 is perfect) and the summoners should have the following macro's setup

                  Macro A >>/pet "Diamond Dust" <ht>
                  Macro B>>/pet "Thunder Spark" <ht>
(the <ht> is used so that you automatically target the CFH mob instead of trying to pick a mob through the lag, because it will be very very laggy)

                  Step 8:
Once you have either a 5 or an 11 on Corsair's roll, setup an order for the 3 smns (smn1>smn2>smn3>smn1>smn2, etc)
to do their Astral flow Blood pacts

                  Step 9:
Smn1 summons shiva, uses Astral flow (that's the 2hr), then uses Macro A (diamond dust) which will automatically target and attack the gigas/sea monk with CFH on. It will hit all the mobs in the "stack" for around 250dmg. repeat with smn2, smn3, and while 2 and 3 are going, you use a Hi-ether, re-summon shiva, and fire off your 2nd blood pact when the timer has expired.

                  Step 10:
after 9 Astral flow blood pacts, you should be level synced to around 19 or 20, depending on how well you pulled the tunnel, and how many mobs died from the AF Blood pacts. There will probably be around 60 mobs left still, at this point you switch to Macro B, and just summon ramuh, thunderspark, release, heal mp, repeat, until everything is dead!
(note: you have to get to level 19 with the intital AF or you won't have access to ramuh's thunderspark)

So that is that, by the time your done with ramuh, you should be around level 23-24, and if you were leaching you'll have gotten around 40-48k experience depending on the size of the stack, if you had exp bands, if your cor roll was 5 or 11, if it wore off and was never re-applied etc. etc.

The way that aggro works in game, the 120+ mobs will not attack you because bascially you never directly attacked them, and they are still "stuck" on attacking the "Tank" because he has healing aggro.

So it can take anywhere from 2hrs to around 45mins depending on how many people are pulling, how familar you are with the process etc, etc. but 40k in 45 minutes is pretty friggin ridiculus. My blu mage went from 42-48 in one round.

                  Personal Discalmer:
I love this method, as it nets the most exp for the lest amount of work (I.E. i'm lazy), but , and this is a really big but, DO NOT TRY TO PLAY ENDGAME WITH A 75 JOB THAT YOU GOT THIS WAY. You need to take the time after you get 75 to level your weapons, your magic, your singing ,or your evasion. I play my jobs well i'd like to think, but I won't bring that blu to an EXP party unless it's an East ronfarue party, because I have gimp magic, no spells from 38-48, and i won't hurt other players with my ineptatude. But if you burned a job from 11 to 75, it would probably take you 2 weeks if you did 3 smn burns a night. another 2 weeks to work on your skills and you should be good after that. This is a great way to get merits, but be forwarned, it dosen't stop when you hit 75, you need to skill up, or you'll mess up hard on some tougher fights.

                  ....

                  ...

In b4 "ZOMG SMN BURN, CHEATER!"

Well it seems like alot of workt to start up and I guess if you want to zerg to 75 then it seems awesome... I don't know if I want to do that yet, if the opportunity presents its self then sure. Thanks for the info it will def be something to consider maybe I will just zerg to 30 to get some advanced jobs unlocked but I dunno we will see. Thanks again I appreciate the info.

Really, the games hasn't aged well at all, even when yuo force the resolution. But it has a nostalgic charm, so it's all good.

What, are you still using a CRT? :p

Highly disagree when you can easily have the same resolution as a 1080p HD TV, and go a step further on the PC by increasing the internal resolution of the game (i.e. textures) to double/triple the default resolution. Not to mention you can also achieve maximum draw distance. Also 120Hz refresh rate means nothing with a game this old.

I decided to rejoin after being gone for about 2 years... my characters aren't very high... and I know I won't be seeing end game... but I do think it would be worth it just to have some fun and there is a possibility of making great friends that will eventually play FFXIV.

I think making friends is the best reason to play. This might not be true for everyone. If end game or nice gear is the most important to you, then it might not be worth it... but just having something relaxing and fun to do in the evenings and talking/grouping with some neat people is what it's all about for me.
