    Worth Coming Back?

    Hey all,

    So I have played this game on and off I think I have bought four times now. I love it and can't stop thinking about it. I want to come back but I don't want it to be a waste. I still have my newest toon which is a 20Mnk/10War, I am thinking about reactivating I just left WoW been playing that game for 5 years and what a let down it has been.

    So i reactivated Aion and its an ok game but its missing the best part of any game ... the story, and its pvp based, I don't mind PvP but eh i'd rather more PvE based game play and a great story. FFXI has such an amazing story from what I remember. If I do come back i am definitely re-rolling, I would be looking for server that has a good population friendly people and maybe a strong link shell so I could enjoy the game the way it was meant be.

    So for the TL;DR is ffxi worth it or should i stick with Aion while i gouge my eyes out waiting for the release of ffxiv.

        FFxi is a lot of work, but I find it comfortably rewarding. I've only been playing for about 2yrs but I can't see myself playing anything else currently out as much. I dread FFxiv's release cuz it will cut into my FFxi time, lol/cry.

        Course... I've been told (many times) that my pension for FFxi is kinda close to Stockholm's Syndrome.

          As for the work I am not worried about that, I like games that take a little bit more work because in then end like u said it is rewarding. I have the time to play, so think I made my decision and will be returning by next month or so. I just need a good server I beilve I was on Odin but then jumped ship with the server transfer and cancelled around that time...

          I don' remember what server I transferred too I am probably going to re-roll hitting 20 is not hard at all.. any good servers anyone can recommend? looking for one that has a good community, friendly and is active.

            For an unbiased opinion from someone who has played both Aion and FFXI I would say that FFXI is worth getting back into if you don't like PvP and only if you can find a good LS to get you to endgame quickly. The reason being is FFXI is near the end of it's lifespan and is dying. Chances are FFXIV will be out before you hit endgame in FFXI so a lot of people will be migrating to that for something new. So much of FFXI opens up at endgame and you will be missing out on a lot of you can't experience it before the game's end. But if you like PvE and can find a great LS to help you through the game then you will love FFXI compared to Aion.

            If you are low level on Aion it's worth sticking it out if you have a good Legion to help you level and do Campaign Missions. But if you're at 35+ you pretty much know what the rest of the game will be like and you will have no endgame to keep you occiuped at Lv50 unlike FFXI. Though that being said, Aion is brand new so it doesn't have much in the way of an endgame yet so it would be very unfair to compare it's endgame with that of a 9 year old game like FFXI. If you prefer PvP to PvE though I would say stick with Aion until FFXIV is out for the reasons I noted above.

                Come back if you want to. Don't if you don't want to.

                Odds are FFXI will be around even after the outflux of people going to XIV; worst case scenario servers will get merged to keep the servers populated. There will always be people needing to do Chains of Promathia on account of its unrelenting difficulty, and in my opinion CoP is by far the most memorable thing about FFXI. On the other hand if you're gonna quit XI as soon as XIV comes out it's questionable how much of the plot you'll get to see, but hey, better than sitting on your ass for months waiting for XIV to come out. If you're gonna waste your free time on a video game make it one you like.

                  Methadone is for opioids addicts; think heroin--icky black tar gunk. Crack is cocaine--totally different. (So I've read; don't really care to experience them in person.)

                    If you want to kill time might as well try some fresher game? Dragon Age is great. And Mass Effect 2 is coming out. We won't be that bored waiting for XIV :D

                      My server population and the number of FFXI players on Aion would like to say Hi. Acutally on my server on Aion (Kalil) the majority of the players on it are either ex-FFXI players, ex-Warhammer Online players or both.

                      I'm not going to call the game dead (though I will call my server dead) but every time I log on to talk to me LS there seems to be more and more people who have quit the game and less and less people on at the various prime times (Japan, US and UK/EU).

                          If anything, I would say that, historically speaking from an MMO perspective, Aion is actually more likely to die out any time soon than FFXI.

                          Firstly, consider the longevity of pre-WoW MMOs (didn't The Matrix Online only die just recently?) versus those of post-WoW MMOs (Tabula Rasa ? Wuts that).

                          Secondly, Aion stands to lose a heck of a lot more of its userbase to Starcraft II than FFXI could possibly lose to FFXIV.

                            So I'm not allowed to get bored of a game because my server is in dire need of a merge and I'm not willing to pay the £25 ($40) it will cost me to hop servers or go through all of the shit you have to do with a new character on a more populated server?

                            And I'm not entitled to see a trend of my server population rapidly dwindling and use that alongside player's stories of finding it difficult to find parties or party members or help with missions to come to the conclusion that the game is winding down and dying?

                            And really Aion has a very large playerbase and gives people an actual viable alternative to WoW. I can't see it dying out purely due to Starcraft II alone.
