Old player seriously considering returning.

Hello, I quit back in late 2004. Since then I've attempted to login to my POL account to no avail.

I've yet to contact billing and support but really what I wish to know first and foremost is:

Presuming my character details have been deleted. (75PLD/50DRG/37WAR/etc)
Would it really be worth my while returning?

I'm aware FFXI is a very time consuming game and that's why I'm asking. I do not wish to start from scratch again only to waste a lot of time in the game getting back up to where my original character left off to jump ship to FFXIV when it's released.

Is it more streamlined these days or still as much of a time sink as it was back in 04?

It still takes up a LOT of time to get any where in the game. You can wait until FFXIV comes out though.

Thanks, I appreciate your honesty.

I guess if I'm not successful in getting my old toon back I'll just leave it and wait. The game brings back so much nostalgia though, I sincerely do miss it!

Gladiators did not just use swords. They used Spear+Net, Cestis, Swords, and more.

Yes, in general it takes less time to get anything done than it used to. There are many more travel shortcuts now. Soloing is easier and faster. EXP parties get EXP faster, especially after level 50. Level Sync also makes looking for party members more forgiving, since higher level players can drop down to your level and join your party. Also there's a good chance that if you didn't delete your character, it's still there.

That said, the game is still a time sink, so whether you want to jump back in or not is entirely up to you.

As far as I know the Return campaign is still going so you can probably recover your character.

Overall though, leveling has gotten a ton easier than it used to be. Level Sync and Fields of Valor have taken a huge bite out of the grind.

However, like Armando said, there's still a grind.

I'm thinking of coming back too, and was just curious. Only hit early to mid-40 with my main class (RDM), so I'm not big into the expansion stuff yet. When I tried playing again about a year ago, even Jueno seemed a bit quiet. I'm curious about whether or not it would be worth it to return, because I've really been tempted to play lately.
