  • Should I get back in?

Well I am debating should I get back into it. I do from time to time think about playing, only to push it aside but I am really considering now that more of my time has opened up more.

First thing should I worry about getting Wings of the goddess off the bat since I will be starting from scratch?

I supposing I will hit one of the bigger servers up this time, was on fairy before low activity to say the least. But do you the people, the players, my..peers think I will still be entertained?

stay away! leave as fast as you.....
*is pulled back in the door by "something"*
    nnnoooooooo!......

*cough* anyway, thats really up to you in the end, people could sit here and tell you all the bad things and good things, and tell you to come back or not to, and in the ned, it still up to you man...

The game has changed alot, and its much better then it used to be, depending on why yo uleft, you might enjoy coming back or not.

Yes, its a personal decision. You know that MMO's can suck the life out of you and you need to choose whether you are up for that challenge or not. LOL

Always remember that you are in control of your in game time. Don't let demands of an ls, in game friends, or other things make you push off real life obligations. As long as you stick to that, why not play? It sure is a money saver compared to what you can spend doing other activities and, in this economy, that's a GOOD THING! lol

Re: Should I get back in?

WotG doesn't really have anything until level 30, when you can unlock SCH and DNC (there's content you can start at level 10, but I personally wouldn't call it worth the trouble). So if you want to hold off on that until you're sure you'll stick around, that makes sense.

If low population bothered you before, it's probably going to bother you again. On most servers, there aren't very many low-level characters around most of the time. You can expect to be on your own for a while, and not have a ton of people around even when you do start partying etc. On the other hand, soloing is easier now, so that's not as much of an issue from the advancement perspective; it's just a matter of not having people to interact with.

Thanks for the input, I think I will load up and login today. I was on fairy before so I will try a bigger server this time.

          Thanks again

Obligatory "all the servers are the same". The only difference being more populous servers require you to compete more often for party camps, NMs, mining/harvesting/etc points, and farming turf than less populous serves. But I'm sure you already took that into consideration when deciding to come back.

Have fun on a bigger server competing for mining points, then.

Fairy somehow seems to have gotten a bit more crowded in the past two months, whether it was from the "return home campaign" or the Odin emigrations. One thing I've noticed for certain is that people are now buying out all the Cotton Thread from the clothcraft guilds when the price gets anywhere near bottom, and that wasn't happening two months ago.

Well on fairy that has happened alot in 2006 at bastok when a flood from returning and new players following FAQs to get a craft up decent. The Alchemy guild was flooded with people, it really messed me up because i was trying to make antidotes for the promys and winjrui (sp) was sold out for the day and the next day was guild holiday I was kinda and waited there because I was the only person in bastok and my party said the other guilds were the same way.

Well I am back on Bahamut as of sunday, I randomly chose it, people treating me like a new player is very useful because no lol at the fact i forgot to set macros. farming doesnt seem to bad, but of the higher levels said Bastok is a bad place to start because of how the ah is working (bastok stuff is flooded). one sent me a donation to get me started but I sent it back I will have felt really bad if i used it knowing how to make money and all. The economy clubbed me though when there was no activity for copper ingots I crafted up 2 stacks and sold them 3500 each, then went back to worms made another stack and with in an hour there were 9 stacks selling for 4000. Goes I will have to find another money plug to get me to 30 so i can go treasure hunting.

Look me up if your on Bahamut

Re: Should I get back in?

The mining points issue cracks me up. I was camping for Cerb pop and there were these players Wongfujukudume and Pengramadapa (weird names like that) that would come up and do emotes on me. /slap /fume /angry etc. I was just standing out there for petes sake and not even near a mining point. But there was another player that would beat them to the point all the time and they thought it was me.

The RMT are horrendous with the mining on my server. I wouldn't even want to start a career in FFXI doing that right now. I mean the names are so blatant and the fact they are on 24/7 should give SE a HUGE FRIGGIN hint they are RMT.

Re: Should I get back in?

Lol on fairy I use to go to Oldton Movalpolos on lightning days and there would be 8 or 9 RMT running around mining. I hard a partner a japanese player who would steal from moblins while i was mining. And then I would desyth them, and every time I would get gold ingots, just luck i guess I only had 45 in goldsmithing at the time. Eventually the RMT started during emoticons, because I guess they thought i was getting all gold ore until they actually watch me craft and saw the lightning effect. That made them even more mad . Good times its there job and i am better then them at it lol. Ironically I was so low if i did get all gold ores i couldnt craft them

Before FoV WotG had some great low lvl Exp/Soloing spots. With Sigil Refresh/Regen/Food+ and wandering pixies, it was really nice. But now, yea, it's better to stay in the original zones. But I wouldn't say there's no one in them, with FoV and Level Synch, places like Qufim are packed more often then 4-5 years ago imo.

As for population (though it's a bit late now I guess), most servers do have about the same amount of active characters. The average (according to FFxiAH) seems to be about 12-13k active accounts per server, with only one server having only 10k and two (bahamut and odin) having 18k+. It wouldn't surprise me to see Bahamut get closed down for new people just like Odin has been. So be glad you got on it when you did. My server seems to be on the lower end of the pop-spectrum but there's always people on so I never understood the need to be on higher-pop servers.

Re: Should I get back in?

level sync has really grabbed everyones attention, i see tonnes of players in the low lvl zones (dunes/qufim/jungles). Finding parties is much MUCH easier than before.

i quit about 3-4 years ago, returned roughly 2-3 weeks ago and i'm loving it.
