Just a lil background---
So I've been playing for roughly four years. I've taken many three month breaks, and just recently roughly a 2 year break. I've probably only played a total of 1 year, with breaks in between. My highest level upon returning was lvl 21. I'm a perfectionist, so i continuously remake characters, when I returned to see the "Return to Vana'diel Program", I had 23 content ID's to reactivate, lol. My bill was set for 76 dollars yesterday as I reactivated them all, then deleted the unneeded ones, and now am back to 2 Mains, and a mule.
Recently, during the last break, I picked up WoW. I'm not new to MMO's, as FFXI wasn't my first, I played Ultima Online, RO, SRO, EQ, and others. WoW was fun....for a few hours. Grinding was stupid, and it was ridiculously easy. I literally hit max level in about 2 months. This was before WotLK. Making money was easy too. Easily, I made 100 gold which is like 100,000 gil, in maybe 2 days? And this isn't farming for <NM>, its all crafting... with a lvl 1. The playerbase is also roughly 90% 12 year olds. Really immature, and hardly any intelligent/good social chats.
So I missed FFXI a lot, it had good intelligent people, and it was an actual challenge, although I left, because I could never spend the dedication of multiple hours per day per week to stay highly leveled, and felt gimped. Gil was harder to make, and I felt lefts behind from my friends, and fellow ls mates.
Upon my return, I am estatic. The game had changed a lot for me, and its for the better. Mobs give more exp, which makes soloing while waiting for pt easier. The beasty-men seem to drop more gil, while its only like a few gil increase, it really makes a difference from 5 to 15 imo. Waiting for pt turns into maybe an hour at max instead of the 3 days im used to waiting. Party Sync is pretty much the best thing ever. It allows our linkshell to party together, and you know that's gonna be a good party!
My first day back I went from lvl 20-29 in dunes only, with a great party in about 6 hours, sync'd. Used one emperor ring charge, and did the Book quests, too many times. The things they added made the game less tedious to level, but still with some challenge.
All in all, I'm 100% happy at my choice on returning!
Any other major changes I may have missed? I heard something about Ixion somewhere? FF10 Ixion? Badass ThunkerUnicorn? I've seen a lot of some updates, that are like mini expansions, introduced as updates, that are free, any info on those? I think they are story/mission based, instead of actual content.
