  • Returning from WotLK.

I started playing FFXI during the NA PS2 Beta, 'till around '06.
I quit the game for WoW and got rid of my account, since I didn't have the time available to commit, and the latter allowed me to play for an hour or two at a time, while still progressing.

Over the years, I've found myself regaining fair amounts of free time, and I've been getting bored with WoW-- I've essentially done everything there is to do in the game now, so my guild's just waiting for new content.

Anyway back to the point: I'm starting up again with the "free trial" to see what's up. I hear a lot of things have changed, and I was pretty interested in the fact that leveling is now allegedly easier with the new "level sync" system, and also that it's been refined slightly to make "soloing" more viable.

I'm looking to join an LS mainly for fun; I've got a friend that's going to be starting up alongside me today, and we'd like to be part of an active social group to make the game more entertaining.
It also wouldn't hurt if we could get some help with stuff down the line (i.e. obtaining subjob items).

Thanks very much in advance. =]

    Re: Returning from WotLK.

Well, FFXI is nowhere near as easy as WoW is even with the changes. I can say that I've easily solo'd my drg recently to level 30 but its now getting pretty darn slow. With the Fields of Valor addition, its made it more interesting and helpful. The mobs give more expz solo now too. Top it off with an empress band because every little bit helps.

Level Sync has its drawbacks but you do get invites more easily. There are still days you'll be waiting a while for a party but in the lower levels you can solo some exp while you wait.

One thing I can say is, don't rush to 75. There is so much of the game to see and enjoy before you get there. I can't tell you how many times I've talked with someone about some aspect of the game to have them respond "Oh really? I never did that." Such a waste.

And then you have players like me, without a single 75 after over 2 years. Although the first year I played, Drg wasn't really a desired class in parties as far as I remember.

        Re: Returning from WotLK.

I recently reactivated my 4 year old account ( I also started back with the NA beta, though it was the PC beta ) with the return to vanadiel campaign and I am finding the game a lot more fun, though quite different in many respects.

I am on Ragnarok, and I actually just joined a LS the other day because they were shouting in Jeuno about making a LS just for fun, and not caring who joined. They actually made me a Sack carrier! If you want to join me I'd be happy to get you and your friend a pearl for the LS, and i'd love to help with SJ stuff ^.^

Ryddia or Nuikoa on Ragnarok. Let me know.

Sounds great, we will... we're probably starting tonight.
I've always wanted to play on Ragnarok, since that was "the place to be" back when ffxionline was started.
Never wound up playing there, since I migrated to Midgardsormr with all of the other testers. =[

Sorry, we've been playing a little erratically over the past few days; we're level 10-11 now.
It's been hard to find a time that works for both of us, because of college/work.
You've been offline every time we checked, though, so we're probably just missing eachother. =[
