Well, I decided to buy the latest 2008 FFXI collection so I could start playing again tonight, so I go to my local gamestop to pick it up. Much to my surprise, there was one copy up there (I was surprised because my gamestop store has gotta be one of the worst, so it was surprising to see anything that I actually want, in-stock.)
I get home, and I'm feeling pretty excited about playing again. I open the box and I'm looking at the little manual/pamphlet thing, and I notice the registration box, and here's where it gets funny - it's completely blank. As if the printer was out of ink when it came time to add the code. At first I thought it was one of those "scratch and reveal" deals, but nope, the code just isn't there. I call up gamestop to see about switching it, and of course, I had gotten the last one. So now my only option is to drive for about an hour to get to the next gamestop, and that's assuming that they even have a copy over there.
Sigh... I really wish I would have just went with the online download; this is such a bummer =/.
Anyway, I guess I just felt like ranting about it. Looks like it'll be awhile before I can start playing.
(Just to be clear - they're not hiding the code somewhere within the discs or something, by any chance?)
