Hello,

Sorry for posting a new topic when there are several others, I looked through many of them (on here and alla) and found mixed answers to my question. I played FFXI for about 3 years about 2 years ago. I then entered college and decided I couldn't trust myself to limit my time commitment, and left the game at home.

I've wanted to come back for ages.. I tried other games with lesser time commitments and found them silly and unsatisfying.

However, with recent developments out of game, and what I see as solo-capability improvements in game, I'm interested in returning if I can recover my old character, who I have already invested time in. The idea of starting over from scratch does not really seem fun to me on the limited-time schedule which I will be adopting, but I might end up trying it if I can't get my character back.

Now, I read a thread on alla about how people were able to get their character recovered years after stopping play. However, then I read here that you are limited to 1 year.

I guess my question is: Can anyone confirm that its true that I could get my character back, even though I have been gone for nearly 2 years? I don't want to get my hopes up if it isn't true.

Okay, with the recent announcement of the Return to Vana'diel Campaign, I have a few questions.

POL & FFXI are both still installed on my computer, but I seem to have misplaced the codes, and I cannot remember my POL ID. I had wanted to move onto my new laptop, and I'm thinking of just getting a whole new box set, as I want the ToAU and WoTG anyways, and would end up dropping 20 bucks no matter what.

My questions are:
1) if I get a new box set, and install it on a new machine, will I get a new POL ID?

2) Subsequently, will the "Return Home" thing work for me, if I have a new POL ID?

3) If not, is there some process I can go about which diverts me to my old POL ID, and thereby enables me to participate in the Return Home campaign?

You need to contact SE. Your POL ID is tied to your character. Do you have the credit card info that you used when you played? You will at least need that. If you don't have that, then don't bother calling because without at least one of the three (POL ID and Password, Credit Card Info, or Registration Codes) how do they know its really your character. Make sure you have the credit card info you used when you played last time and the name and address of the person that the card belonged to at that time.
