  • Returning to FFXI after two years.

When I last officially played FFXI I was with the linkshell named KnightsBrotherhood in the Garuda server. I still have my two characters with me, a Black Mage named Komigo, and Monk/Warrior named Jkid.

But when I logged in occasionally in those past two years I found that the Linkshell was disbanded for a while. Now I'm officially coming back to FFXI. Problem is that I have no idea what to do.

My first character, Jkid, is a 30 Monk/Warrior and has already got his Chocobo License, and currently on Rank 3, but maxed out until he does another mission because I donated crystals to the gate guards.

My second character Komigo, is currently at level 20 does not has her own Chocobo License, has not done the sub-job quest, and is currently at Rank 1.

    Both are currently at Bastok.

    Any suggestions?

Well first of all take one of the two that you like more (visual or what ever)
and make that your main character, and the other one your mule

If you choose the 30MNK then you should immediately get a Kazham airship pass so you can go to Kazham and level to 32-33 then you can start in Citadel.

You didnt mention race, though I'm assuming the BLM is taru. Make sure you pick one that you are ok with looking at, I can't stress this enough. My first character was a Galka cause I wanted to level several melee jobs, but eventually I got tired of looking at him and rerolled a Bearded Hume and don't regret it, since stat wise Hume's are very balanced for all jobs and I like to jump around a lot.

While you CAN level 2 characters seperately, having to redo later CoP and Rank missions twice on 2 characters seems like a difficult task, so the choice is yours really.

Here's some more information. Komigo is a Taru BLM ankid is a Hume WAR/MNK. Jkid has already have a Kazham airship pass and leveled up there from 25-30.

What I need to work on is moving up through the rank levels.

This is the most difficult part of levelling up two characters, mission progress is very much expected. I've levelled a Tarutaru and a Mithra over the years and the only reason I've stuck with it is because I can now customize them to thier strengths rather than level a buncha jobs on one character and end up having to make comprimises in merit categories and such.

To me, the struggle there was ultimately worthwhile, but it was a long, long road and there's still lots of things I have to do twice over.

That is an option, but at level 30 it can hardly be your main focus. Sure you can just have some 75's run you through the missions and shit, do what you want. But if you want to actively participate in the completion of those missions, you'll need to work on gaining more levels. I don't want to discourage you, just give you a realistic idea of how it will work.

That said, completing national missions can be very fun and rewarding.

I'd agree, you should work on leveling a bit first. Not just to keep from being a leech on the missions, but because it can help you make new connections if your old friends aren't around anymore. Find people in your parties you enjoy partying with, see if they have a linkshell you can join, or /befriend, keep in touch, etc.

At least on your monk. If you want to continue with the second character, get you a subjob and chocobo.

Pick a character and just level that one. The beauty of FF is that you can change jobs, don't let your race change that decision by any means.

As far as what to do, you're still a very low levels, just start the good old grind, meet friends along the way, it'll all fall into place from there.

The best advice for new players/low level players I've seen in a long time.

Imo, I think a lot of ppl get discouraged by not getting anywhere is because they jump around trying different jobs then end up doing the most painful levels 2, 3, 4 times and feel they havent accomplished anything at all.

Read up on the forums and wiki about what your job is like and will be like in later levels. Find one you like and just stick to it to experience the game first. Once you have a decently leveled character, 60+ in my book, if not one 75, then start on other jobs. Having 1 character leveled gives you the opportunity to experience the game. Having 4 jobs at lv. 15-40 doesnt give you anything useful.
