  • Friend possibly coming back

I have a friend that's finally done EVERYTHING in WoW and is now looking to come back to FFXI. I know that more than likely his account is gone, but he's really wanting it back since he had a few jobs in the 50s and doesn't want to have to start back over again.

Here's the issue...he can't find his discs (it's been 3 years), and doesn't remember his POL ID at all. He tried calling and getting on web chat last night for hours with no luck (which I'm hearing is the norm, SE really needs to beef up the Customer Service), but before he wastes more hours, is there even a chance that his stuff is still there? Will SE be able to give him his old POL ID if he gives them other personal information? Is it all tied to the credit card on file (since he hasn't had that card in forever and wouldn't know the numbers), or is there a chance they could look him up with name, address, and other account info?

Also, say his account is able to be recovered by some miracle, he now is going to need to rebuy the game (like I said, no discs). That in itself isn't an issue, but would he even be able to buy a new copy and use his old POL ID, or is the registration code associated with a POL ID "locked" to one another?

He's gonna keep trying with the web chat and telephone to talk to SE, but I figured I'd ask here and see if anyone could save him some time. Thanks for any info...

I can't say anything definitive about your other questions, but there's nothing to worry about here. The registration codes are for accounts, not discs. If he can get his old POL ID and password back, he can use that account on anything that has the game installed. There's nothing tying a particular installation to a particular account.

There is no rush. If you're not willing to take your time, don't be surprised when no one wants to give you much of theirs.

Thanks for the fast reply. ^^

Ok, new question I just thought of...so, he quit playing 3 years ago. He had the original U.S. FFXI disc (I think it was the game and the RotZ expansion bundled together) and the seperate CoP expansion for the PC. Now, if he goes out and buys the old Vanadiel collection (pre-WotG) he should be ok there as all the registration codes are seperate, but iirc isn't the new Vanadiel collection all condensed to just one registration code, meaning his POL ID won't work with that? His POL ID would show that he had FFXI, RotZ, and CoP, but he's going to need to get a registration code for ToAU and WotG seperately so he can tie THOSE to his account as well. Right? Am I over complicating this? ^^

Also, has anyone tried the direct download feature yet, and if so how did it work, was it reasonably fast?

        Re: Friend possibly coming back

I too have returned from 4 years ago... in a whole, after trying for 3 months to have my old account reinstated, it has been however all content ID's are lost. I doubt I'll ever see them again, so I started from scratch. To have my account reinstated, I needed the name on the credit card set up on the account as well as the first and last 4 digits.

With a very slim to no chance of recovering his content ID, if he really wants to come back... bunch of lvl 50's arent hard to recover. With a little time and determination, my advice is give it a try a few times to recover if he has his CC info, but if he doesn't have his previous CC info don't bother... just gonna have to grit his teeth and start from scratch. Least he has a friend to help him along the way.

Yeah, those were my thoughts, too. I didn't think about the credit card thing until after he'd spent 2 hours trying to get on the chat, but I figured that'd be a major thing after I thought about it. It's gonna be harder now to convince him to come back, but perhaps I and the rest of his old ls mates can bribe him with gilz and PL sessions. ^^

Thanks for the info, you saved us both a lot of time! ^^

              Aloha Kristie,

I totally understand what your talking about. I restarted from scratch, on an entirely new server from my original server. I only had 1 RL friend on my new server, at first it didn't have the same spark I remember with all my old LS bruthas & sistahs. But I don't regret coming back. Now we probably have the largest Hawai'i based community. 7 people all from Hawai'i and a bunch more willing to jump servers. =) Glad you came back!!! And WHM rocks!!!
