  • Raiding in wow is getting boring, thinking about returning to my lolbst.

After raiding in wow for about half a year and progressing in Tier 6 content (Black temple and Mount Hyjal) I have gotten bored of the hunter class and raiding in general. I am thinking about coming back to FFXI to my 73 BST to finish leveling him up and do some casual endgame (3-4 days a week at the most) and leveling up a craft or another job possibly maybe white mage. Just wondering how things have changed from about one year ago.

The biggest question is how big of an impact did Wings of the Goddess have on the game? Just new missions, jobs and zones or is there more to it? FFXIclopedia does not have a real detailed feature list that it added to the game.

How is endgame from one year ago and how open is it to a BST? I don't really want to come back to the game if I'm just going to be shafted for being a Beastmaster, I remember having most of my pre endgame 75 gear that I could get and have most of my pre req missions done (6-4 CoP cleared, Sky access, dynamis access and sandy cleared) so I would not be a huge burden to a endgame ls and I would hope some of my wow experience carries back into this game, I know it did when I started playing WoW.

Also would I be able to find a good ls that only does events 3-4 days a week that makes good progress? or is success only for the hardcore?

Edit: also now that I have a lcd screen that I game on just wondering if the game supports 1440x900 and do the resolution hacks work with lcd screens?

The biggest thing about the new expansion for high levels is probably Campaign. Mind you, as BST I'm sure you're used to soloing for XP ... but Campaign ends up as soloing in company with no XP loss and raises eventually. There's also the Dancer and Scholar classes, but I'm not really qualified to speak about Dancer's usefulness for BST (Scholar is less useful than WHM for you, I'd say ... no reraise or status cures).

Hmm campaign sounds kinda interesting, would it be like a nice slow paced way to level other jobs? Would a white mage or paladin do well soloing it?

Campaign is tendered more towards levels 61+. Not to say you can't gain exp being lower than 61, but it's really not an equal alternative to an exp party. Campaign is like mini Besieged. You can do a besieged at level 34, but you'll get dead a lot.

And yes, FFXI supports 1440x900 res, with or without windower/"hacks."

PLD75 DRK60 lots of other levels.

Well when I said resolution hack its meant changing the background resolution in the registry, just unsure about how it would work on a LCD wide screen.

One important note about campaign, when you get the Allied Tags (your buff to participate for EXP and no EXP death penalty), you cannot gain EXP from standard mobs, only Campaign ones. Additionally with Allied Tags active, you cannot gain skillups.

The registry thing generally doesn't change the resolution the game actually runs at, so LCD or not has no bearing on anything. (It can, but there's no reason to unless you want to play at a resolution smaller than your screen, which is silly of you.) Changing the background resolution to fake anti-aliasing is completely resolution agnostic.

A very very slow way. 3-4k/h is the most that can be expected. The upside is that every job can participate and solo.

Personally I wouldn't use it as a primary way of getting EXP but it is a nice alternative, especially on days if you just don't have time to look and spend in a party.

To add, it's a great place to get some XP solo while you're LFP, so you're not just sitting around Whitegate listening to people shout nonsense.

I use that registry change on my computer, and it is true, the game does look amazing - and I have a LCD widescreen. Instead of trying to set the widescreen setting in the registry though, which is easy to screw up if you don't do everything absolutely perfect, I would recommend simply increaceing the standard resolution in the registry then using FFXI's Aspect Ratio feature to set it to widescreen settings.

As for WoTG: SE added a lot of new monster types, including several new charmable ones, one being the( rather odd looking ) Ladybug, that seems kind of weak but has very powerful Weaponskills(During the day, at night they suck).

Campaign is very nice, any job level 11 or higher can participate in Campaign Battles(Similar to Besieged) or Campaign Operations(Similar to Assault) for EXP and Allied Notes, and most of them can be done solo, though some select few require a group of 3-6.

Scholar seems to be largely a support job. At lv 40+, it hosts an interesting array of weather spells (they add a weather effect to a targeted party member, nice for enchanced spell/weaponskill damage, latent equipment effects, and various other quirks) In the higher levels, they get a line of -helix spells, extremely powerful DoT, though only one can be used at a time(you can't stack even two, let alone four or eight)

Dancer is also support, but holds more viability as a DD or healer. Their dances consume TP, reducing their chances to use WS, but the dances can do everything from enfeebling a monster to curing the party.
