So now that world passes are gone, how do I get on a specific server? Do I just chose the name of a server now, or is it all totally random?

Read the update logs. The patch they removed World Passes added a manual world selection list at the character creation screen. You just pick one and it no longer requires a password. The World Pass entry screen is now only for Gold World Passes, so you can get the item benefits.http://www.ffxionline.com/forums/gen...igure-out.html
