  • I feel alone

    Hello everyone,

I am a returning player, I stopped before CoP came out and decided I wanted to come back...So I install and patch and make a new character...

Everything is so lonley, I tried a few servers and I see mabye 6 -12 player roaming around all of my favorite city of windhurst and the newbie areas, I tried to solo a bit saved some gil with quests and went to the AH...but there is never anything for sale...mabye 1 or 2 newbie items and the rest of the items is for mid 20's and up.

I remeber there being dozens of people in all areas, even if there was a wait on a group there was at least people to see and talk to, and how do I lvl if I cant buy any gear until I reach 20 and pray that just mabye there is something on the Jeuno AH

Has the game changed that much? I see people saying welcome back, glad your home, etc but how can a new player start under these conditions? Is there a new starting city everyone goes to these days...where do us newbs get gear at ?

    Thanks
    Valera

    Re: I feel alone

When I get tired of my server I like to take a holiday to another server, generally I start in sandy because it's my favourite, I fish moat carp for gil and buy whatever armour I can from NPCs and quest any items useful to me. Recently I made a thf on Kujata and quested Wing Pendant for the AGI+1 for example.

As for meeting people, the easiest thing to do if you really don't want to wait to make friends is /shout for a linkshell, you can even explain you're a returning player and not a complete newb. Of course the chance of getting a decent linkshell first time around isn't great.

Other than that, I'm sure loads of people on this forum would recommend you move to their server where they can set you up with a good linkshell/crowd of people.

Sylph for one would welcome you

^_^; The starter cities shouldn't be that bad. Which time zone and during what time of the day are you playing?

Low level (Lv.10 and under) equipment can be had from NPC's, and usually for cheaper prices than AH. Once you hit Lv.18+ and go to Jeuno, you would find more people. Of course, most Lv.55+ tend to hang out in Aht Urhgan Whitegate instead these days.

        Re: I feel alone

XI has been out for many years now, so all those players you used to see in the starting cities or Jeuno are now in Aht Urgan doing lvl 60+ stuff.

And as time passes less and less players party from lvl 1-20.

Even so, there should still be some new players out there wanting to make new friends, so I guess you just gotta go out there and find 'em.

        Good Luck.

As a 2-monther myself, I agree. Unless it's just Asura, it doesn't seem like the ideal situation for newbies... My opinion..

            Re: I feel alone

My play times are usually 5pm est till midnight. Its just a big culture shock to go from a busy culture to a barren one. I realize that many players have leveled up to higher areas, just didnt expect there to be so few around these days at my playtime.

Leveling a newbie whitemage has turned out to be very painful ( I dont mind restarting on a new server? Any suggestion based on my play times.

This may sound band-wagonish, but try the overpopulated Bahamut! Never been, but I hear good things...

                Re: I feel alone

As far as the Auction House issue, the market was already consolidated fairly heavily in Jeuno to begin with, and when massive deflation began, a number of items became scarce after the price dropped below a threshold many were willing to deal with them. However, I have noticed a slight resurgence in the non-Jeuno/AU markets as the deflation continues, even small sales at low volume start to make a difference for some of us, and even the lowered Jeuno AH fees start to become prohibitive for many items.

In terms of depopulation, the Aht Urhgan Whitegate zone quicky became extremely important for anyone level 50 or up, not to mention WHMs with teleports. Getting to Aht Urghan Whitegate was excrutiatingly time-consuming, and getting from Whitegate to wherever else you wanted to be increasingly easy. As a result, it quickly became the ONLY place anyone EVER set their Home Point, to enough of an extent that I've actually been chewed out for temporarily setting it elsewhere and thus not being ready to get back there quickly enough.

This of course left Aht Urghan Whitegate even worse for lag than Lower Jeuno, which at least had three other zones to spill out into without the complications of Besieged.

The recently added teleports from San d'Oria, Bastok, and Windurst may help combat that a little with more incentive to set Home Point in these cities (particularly as the 300 gil charged for the new service is a lot cheaper than the silver piece demanded by Kaduru-Haiduru), but we'll see if this is enough to change people's habits.

Why is that? Why not describe the trouble you're having and let us know what level? Maybe someone would have just the right advice for you?

                    Re: I feel alone

Well I have managed to work upto lv 7 nothing to big, but with no small groups around, even going duo hasnt really been an option as players I see during my playtimes are either passing by, bazzar bots, to low or high lv. So I am reduced to trying to solo easy pray mobs rather then group up for something a bit more well paced. And with the empty AH's make the citys feel very unused, usually no economy = no player base using the areas.

I dunno I was just expecting to come back to the busy streets, of windhurst, seeing shouts for groups random people asking if you want to team up to share a camp spot. I loved the game and figured coming back I could re-live and expand on my memorys. As i said before the area's I knew and able to get to make the gaming experience lonley at the moment.

                      Re: I feel alone

Below Lv.10 grouping in PUG's (pickup groups) is pretty much dead, unless it's with friends or LS. ._.

Get your Signet (so you can rest and keep TP), chomp down a Grilled Hare or Meat Jerky, and go out and bash those EP's.

Hang in there; Lv.11 (Cure II!) and exp parties are not that far away. (Switch to Ginger Cookies or pies by then, of course.)

                      * * *

When running around, I give out random Cure's and Protect's to lowbies I found in Sarutabaruta or Valkrum Dunes, if they need them. (Actually, I kind of do that everywhere...)

You may want to try that, and see if anyone want to strike up a conversation. Who knows? Someone out there may be feeling lonely, and would be gladdened by a random act of kindness. ^_^

Well I restarted on Sylph, my new home. I have taken some advice of others and am leveling a few jobs to 10 prior to working on my main job i want so I can build some gil and skill ups.

If any new people on Sylph want to look me up for some company feel free to contact me, the character name is Slixia, of Windhurst.

Thanks everyone, see you around Vanadiel

Hi there Valera! I just restarted after a 13-month break. I too feel kinda lonely and wish to make some new friends. Look for me and send me a tell & add me. I'll be your friend! =) (I will be looking for you too).

I'm not restarting from scratch, but can easily start a new job and we can party together. =)

Same goes for anyone else that reads this. I'm looking for new friends and a new friendship-based linkshell where friendly people talk and do quests, missions, farming, and NPC leveling together. =)

As a side note: on my server Lakshami(sorry if it's spelled wrong) Windy(as I call it) is usually dead(I think it is too spread out ) except for festival events. Of the 3 starting cities I tend to like Bastok better but will goto all the low lvl zones to solo exp(I never party before lvl 17 ish). Also, instead of manually looking for people by walking around you may want to try the "search" function(it would at least show you how many people are in the zone)
u have to know when to hold them, know when to fold them
