  • Starting ffxi

Hi there, I'm a euro player who is coming back to ffxi.

i played ffxi a while back on Fairy, but only reached a very low level as i found it difficult to get groups and such.

Was wondering if anyone could suggest a server with a decent amount of activity during euro hours, and maybe a LS interested in an ffxi noob.

Ifrit has a good amount of Euro players. As for low level exp parties they are kind of rough not hard to get one day hard to the next. We also have a fair deal of Euro Endgame ls.

if you join pheonix i could hook you up with some social LS's most of the time you will PT with JP early day and NA at end day, i have found a EU LS but it's a HNMLS and social so you have to be lvl 70+ to get into that one but like i said i could hook you up with a LS, hell i'm also a EU so you will always have someone to ask questions ^.^

        Thanks for the help guys.

Hate to be cheeky and keep asking, but what starting area would you choose. I'm thinking of starting as a red mage.

Starting area... Whichever suits you fancy, really.

Start in one city, run around, and see if you like the city. Delete character, try another city. Delete again, try the final city. Takes but one day, and you get to sample them all. Once you figured out which city you like the best, delete the character if it's not already there, and recreate it at that city.

You can start of as any job, and switch to any other starter job with no penalty, so RDM is just as good as any other one.

That said, I do recommend solo'ing all six starter jobs to Lv.10 before you go further; the drops from doing that should be enough to fund decent equipment for any job you wish to take to Lv.20 or even 30.

Actually, unless/until you take BLM to 17 and get Warp, I personally would recommend leaving one basic job at level 1-3 for deathwarp. But then I tend to choose jobs based on the character's personality/interests too...

Starting city is a question of taste, largely, as there are useful resources in each. For RDM I'm somewhat leaning toward recommending Bastok for the availability of armor from NPCs. Unless you get good at aggro-dodging, you're likely to be stuck in the starting city and vicinity until around level 20 (though it's not that hard to get between the starting cities at level 1 once you are experienced with aggro, just time-consuming).

For Bastok, do check out the Zeruhn Mines. This is a zone directly off of Bastok Mines, and is an excellent area for leveling 1-5.
