    Re: Thinking about coming back after 3 years

    Still, being a WHM is definatily the way to go. I have used (usually) the following proceedure when logging: I put up my Party flag, and go to a zone close by, trying to get some XP while waiting. It doesn't take much time to get a tell, and it's usually an okay group. I've gone from 8-16 in a matter of 2-3 days (it's probably not that much of an achievement, but it's my first ever character). So yes, people are definatily in the lower zones, I'd say. There's always someone there.

      Re: Thinking about coming back after 3 years

      Number of people seeking and party invites really depend a lot on time of the day, and whether it's the weekend or a weekday. Jobs and levels are factors, too.

      Healers are in good demand up to 30's, but in 40's and 50's it's frequently all about finding tanks lately--at least on Ifrit during the hours I play RDM. Late at night (PDT), it's not that unusual to find two or three support role jobs (usually other RDM's) seeking at my level, but no NIN or PLD for an hour or two.

      During NA prime hours (when I'm normally not on except for LS events, static parties, or whatnot so don't want exp parties), my RDM receives multiple invites while in party... Go figure.

      Of course, if you seek parties at odd hours often enough, you'd see plenty of weird things--like tanks, healer, support roles--but no DD's... ^_^;

      yet not a mote of dust is stirred;
      Moonlight pierces the depths of the pond,
      leaving no trace in the water.

If you want more details there's a site out there called FFXI AH (http://www.ffxiah.com) that displays current Auction House prices....

          Re: Thinking about coming back after 3 years

          I figure I'd post this here instead of starting a new thread >_>

          FFXI and I have a long standing off-again, on-again relationship. I left once in 2004 and returned in 2005 then left again for WoW. Well, I've basically beaten WoW and I find myself aching for the only game that I ever truly loved.

          I want to come back. I want to play again. And I would, if it wasn't so... well hard! You see, I work a good 12 hours a day, so I only have time to play for 3 or so hours a night. I remember back ('04) when I didn't work and played FFXI all day long, how it would take a minimum of an hour (or more) to even find a party, then you were required by etiquette to stay in the party for at least two hours. God forbid if your player team wiped more than once because you'd be set back by at least two days worth of time.

          I love the game. I really do. I just can't come back if the experience grinds are still a long hassle and if death in game still make you want to kill yourself in real life. I can't reactivate until the game is more user friendly and doesn't require me to quit my job and set up a refrigerator in the bedroom (not that a fridge in the bedroom wouldn't be awesome, because it would).

          So, my question to you guys, is have the experience and death penalty issues been tweaked at all?
