Thinking of starting FFXI again.

Hey everyone. Now I first started playing FFXI back in 2003/2004 when the PC version was first released in the US. I quit as a level 50 warrior in the summer and haven't played since. I played WoW for a while but got bored of it. I played FFXI since I'm a FF fan and love the way square-enix do things. I'm thinking of buying the DVD collection that has all three expansions on one disc and get playing again. How has the community progressed over the years? Has the leveling changed? I remember the good old Valkrum days. Anyways hope you guys can help.

The community has had its ups and downs, basically if you stay away from HNML you'll see a good community or so I'm told. Leveling is actually alot easier now with the new expansion since its easier to level in the 55+ region, so getting to 75 will be alot faster.

Lower level areas like the Dunes and Qufim still suck IMO. At least when you run into the general party of 'people who don't know how to play'.

Ahh, is there still the problems in valkrum that used to annoy me when no on was about too level with? Or are the areas quitoe busy these days? Well it all comes down to the servers I guess.

The dunes is usually pretty quiet now a days... and getting through there will either be insanely fast or you just solo those levels. Reason I say this is if you do get a PT it usually has a PL because someone is just leveling another job or sub and has a buddy PL'ing to get out of there as fast as possible or you just don't get a PT at all and solo to 20.

I started playing again around 2 weeks ago, and getting a party in the 13-14 range when leveling RDM/WHM was hell cause not many were seeking in this range, so I actually ended soloing most of it fairly well. When leveling WHM to 18 to get my subjob I didn't encounter this though, so it's an on and off thing to be honest.

Aye, I remember when I was a WAR I got a fair few spots for tanking, Im gonna probs roll WAR again since I like them and there good fun.

Hmm. You probably don't mean "roll" exactly, but there's no rolling involved--your race determines your base stats. e.g. Every Hume WAR has the same base stats Lv.1-74. (Once hit 75, can merit to change them.)

You don't roll in WoW any more than you do in FFXI, but it's still a perfectly acceptable term. Many MMO players use it.

It's a holdover from the pen and paper RPG days. When you would "roll up" (meaning roll the stats for) a new character.

The term is a bit confusing to those who do no have experience outside of FF or similar system, though. Even I stared at the phrase "roll WAR" for a while trying to figure out what it means.

I noticed that the lower levels often seem to be depleted of players seeking these days.

If you can't play at prime time, partying chances may be slim. Tanks are the most lacking, followed by healer/support. That said, I've seen nights where not enough DD seeking in the 40's to form parties as well, though much rarer. (Plus I play at odd hours, so you'll likely fare better.)

It wouldn't be not a bad idea to level up WHM first, so you can solo as melee/WHM to get a little exp while seeking after Valkrum Dunes levels.

yeah!!im thinking of coming back again.once im through with FF12.cant help not playing it.i wonder how much the game will change since i left?hope to finish soon so i can come back.

That all depends on how long you've been gone. If it's less than a few months, the answer is most likely "Not much."
