How hard is it to come back?

I played FFXI for about 1 yr plus back in 2004 and left for WoW. However, upon reaching endgame, I felt that WoW just isn't for me. I'm thinking of coming back but before I left, I sold all my gear and gave my gil to my friends. Now my friends have stopped playing too and so if I return, I will have close to nothing. As all WoW players know, gold isn't really an issue at all cos it's really easy to farm until 60 with epic mounts and mats. However, from my experiences, FFXI is a lot harder. Thus, I would just like to have some input on whether things have changed cos I have been away for 2+ years now. Thanks in advance.

Things have gotten a little better due to S-E's recent string of bannings, but still not completely fixed. I really don't think it's that hard to make the gil needed for the equipment you want if you set aside the time to farm a little bit. I started a fresh toon with absolutely nothing and was able to get enough gil to take 2 jobs to 20 with just one farming session. In fact... most of that "farming" session was normal exp from 1-10. So, I really don't think it would be too difficult to start again as a new character.

Speaking from personal experience (I've quit and come back probably 6 times over the course of the history of NA FFXI) the hardest part of coming back is finding new friends. With friends helping you and giving you advice or just company whilst farming, nothing seems as difficult as it is when you're going at it alone.

The next issue is the test of time. Why did you leave it in the first place? If it got old for you, as I've found out, unless you do something very different from your last experience with FFXI, it'll probably wear thin again. Perhaps quicker than the last time.

Last, the issue of money and other things aquired during your time in the game.. my best advice is to pick up a fishing rod.

Another one speaking from personal experience here. I have recently returned, and I am really enjoying the experience of going through it all again. It is fun to relive the lowbie experience, but with the knowledge of having been through it before - it makes it go a lot faster. Also, as has been said, make some friends - this game is nothing without friends. Get back into the groove until you start partying, then let people know you are a returning player looking for a LS and in my experience they are very helpful. Good luck to you.

Me too...

i left the game to play FF12.when i finish it i'll come back.but the question thats been bugging me is that when i come back,how far away am i from my friends?that bugged me the most.but i really wanna finish FF12 so, i guess i'll just have to finish it up fast.
