  • Unsure whether to play or not, advice?

    Hello

I played FFXI Online about 2 years ago, I soon got bored of it and quit around level 15, I can't really remember why I quit. I'm quite an experienced MMORPG player after playing Dark Age of Camelot for almost 4 years, and World of Warcraft for almost 2 years.

I've just finished completing Final Fantasy 12 on the PS2, which has gave me a sudden interest in FFXI again (after seing the races, weapons, graphics engine etc etc again), and I'm considering playing again.

So, I guess my questions are:

    - From a PvE point of view, is FFXI Online good ?
    - What is the population of FFXI servers in general ? (100, 500, 1000, 10000?)

And one last question, Is there any way I could Trial the game for free, even if it's for like 7 days? I have my CD's somewhere (just the original game, no expansions) if I can find them. Any way to get hold of a trial account?

    Thanks

    - From a PvE PoV: FFXI is much better than wow- If you do other things and not just endgame HNMing at max level, then yes, there is alot to do. However, the pvp element loses versus wow's pvp element(s).

-All servers usually have between 2000-3500 people on at any given time, so just right, not too many, not too few.

    - Oh and as for that free trial, FFXI has a promotion going on now, it is called a Buddy Pass, and comes with the new vanadiel collection: 30 days play for free. There should be somewhere on these forums to ask for a pass, so search around.

Not legally. Your best bet is to buy the 2007 Vanadiel Collection. It retails for $30, and after the 30 day free trial that you get with it, you're only really paying $17.

I got a question do they sell the original FFXI for the ps2? meaning so I can re-down load POL, instead of having to spend 100$ again?? sense I lost it LOL...

            Ah okay, cheers.

            I hope it's worth it.

If it's anything like FF12 then I'm sure I'll love it!

Sorry but thanks to Sony and thier anti-HDD policies you'd have to track down a copy(it's not sold in retail stores anymore). The codes would be invalid but the installs would still work. If you lost your installs you're really in trouble!

The hardest part of playing on a PS2 is finding installs for CoP and TAOU...lucky for me I keep my installs in a very safe place ^^

I got them all put into the HDD, I just need a fricken registration code so I can re-sign up to POL so I can play LOL! I was thinking about just buying the PC version...it would be better I think so I dont have to unplug the DSL cable cored whenever I want to play...

Well, either way, buying the PC version would solve your problems. You could install it and use it on the PC, or you could use those very registration codes for your PS2 version. The codes aren't platform specific.

yeah just wanted to know see if their was a easier way to do it. Ok well back on topic. I think you should play it if you like FFXII you should like it even though FFXI has alot more stuff they have their similarities.

How is groupability at low levels nowadays by the way? As It's been out a while, is it still easy to get a group after level 20? (I think that's when it becomes pretty much impossible to solo, correct me if I'm wrong)

Also, is there anywhere I can get a detailed description of what exactly ALL the expansions introduced to the game?

Well technically it becomes more difficult to solo at lv. 10-15. Also technically any job could solo to 75, just takes more strategy the higher level you are to do it.

As for parties at the lower levels it's kind of wierd. Many seem to get Power Levelers now and basically avoid learning to play their role right. I mean it's pretty pathetic when I see a RNG of lv. 20 excited that they matched the Melee's damage, something seriously wrong there. Especially since when I was lv. 20 I was matching lv. 40-50 Tanks damage and was well above a lv. 20 Melee's damage.

Other then that most of the games real fun play is in the 30's and up. If you dropped it by lv. 15 you didn't see much of it at all.
