  • Question about coming back

I read the sticky, but I was unable to find anything in it that met my circumstances. My credit card was stolen last year (the one I used to pay for ffxi), and I received a new one. However, I wasn't playing ffxi at the time (didn't cancel my ID but hadn't logged on in like a month) so I just completely forgot to update my new credit card info in the payment section. I'm assuming they canceled my account. Then my hard drive failed, and I lost the game that was on my computer. And my ex had my box with all my ID numbers in it, so I just gave up. Decided to finally quit. Now I'm wanting to come back. My character was a BLM 74, and I really don't want to start over. But I have a bad feeling I might have to. I never canceled her. It's been about 8 months. Does anyone know of a way I can get her back if I buy the game again and use different codes? I don't remember the code she was under, but I do know her name and my password

    Re: Question about coming back

your gonna need your playonline ID from the previous box/install and the password from it, then they may be able to recover your character after setting up new CC information. Not sure how long they keep characters around for tho :/

I'm pretty sure that you need at least the original codes if you want to get your old character back.

You don't need the old registration codes, actually.

        (1) You need:
        - a copy of the FFXI installation disks (with any expansions you had installed at the time your HD crashed).
        - Your PlayOnline ID and Password.

        (2) If you don't have your POL ID and Password, you might be hosed - the only thing you can do at that point is call PlayOnline Support and see if they can help you recover that information (be prepared to answer a LOT of questions).

        (3) As long as you didn't delete your character, and didn't delete your POL ID, what should have happened is that your Content ID was suspended for non-payment. After 8 months, your character is probably "soft deleted", but most likely is recoverable by S-E, and there's a small chance that it may be just inactive and not even soft deleted.

        (4) If your character is simply inactive and not soft deleted, then assuming you can get your POL ID and Password correct, you should be able to log in, purchase a new Content ID and link it to your character and get right back on.

        (5) If your character IS soft deleted (in other words, you log into PlayOnline and don't see your character in the list), do NOT create a new character with the same name. If this has happened, wait for the next Return to Vana'diel program (should be early next year around February), at which point your character should be recoverable by Square-Enix. They do the Return to Vana'diel program specifically for cases like this.

This is true, I had a case where my debit card expired before I got a new one and I just had to reactivate content IDs.

            Re: Question about coming back

Thanks for all the responses. I don't have the orginal disks that I used. If I go buy new ones, will that still work?

And you said "you should be able to log in, purchase a new Content ID and link it to your character and get right back on." How do I link it to my character? Or will there be instructions there for me to follow once I get back online? It's been so long since I've been online that I don't really remember what all the screens look like.

Also, since I haven't payed for the past 8 months, when I reactivate my character, will I owe them money for those 8 months?

Again, thanks for all the help!

Considering your account has been deactivated for that long, don't get your hopes up that your character is still alive. SE usually gives up to 3 months to retrieve your character after you've quit....and they have a Return to Vanadiel in spring, which lasts up to a year, I believe.

btw, if you stop paying for a certain month, they stop your services until you pay again, so no, you don't owe them 8 months worth of service.
