  • Returning after quite a long break

    HI,

I've been thinking of reactivating my account lately, but after reading up a bit here and elsewhere, I am now wondering if I should.

I canceled my account over 2.5 years ago, and from what I've heard, after a certain period of time, characters are not recoverable?

I had somewhere in the area of 500+ combined levels between all jobs on my main character, including my 75 ranger. If my character is not recoverable, I don't think it would be worth it to me to reactivate my account.

Can anyone please help clear things up for me a bit?

Depends on if POL is willing to help you out. They're still there after 3 months, they just gaurantee that you can get them back until 3 months have passed.
Best bet is to call POL and see what can be done. A "Return to Vanadiel" program is semi-consistent and I think if you still have your POL account you can always get your characters back. I think we're due a RtV program again rather soon.

      I had another question.

Back when I canceled my account, RNG was still the king of damage. I have heard a lot of disheartening things from people who kept playing after I left, about how rangers were nerfed, etc

      Is this true?

They were nerfed, but its likely that you heard a lot of the kneejerk reflexes at losing damage.
Yes, we do less damage. Its now level based like melees, but is a smaller percentage change, so its not as noticable on normal xp mobs, but very noticable on HNM's, etc. We still do very good damage actually. A lot of rng's have started using /WAR in many situations and continue to put up big numbers. They're not the kings anymore, but I still outperform most DD's I party with.
Ranged accuracy did get nerfed too, but supposedly there's an update in October thats going to affect that, so it may get better (trying not to get my hopes up.)

Re: Returning after quite a long break

I have left for periods greater than 6 months at a time without losing my character information, but 2.5 years is pretty long. I'd definitely check with someone at POL/SE, or wait for a RtV program, unless you would enjoy going back up through 500+ levels again.

Welcome back, BTW. Which server would you be returning to?

            Thanks.

Lakshmi, if I can get my character restored.

your best bet would be waiting for another return to vanadiel campaign (probably next may/june). I doubt regular helpdesk would be able to do anything for you.

              Thanks Yyg!

Re: Returning after quite a long break

Yep, you were right, they were unable to help me, and suggested I wait until the next RtV.

                *sigh*

Guess I will just start all over again. I'm not going to wait until next may/june.
