  • Where do COR, PUP, and BLU fit into PTs?

I'm comeing back after the account maintance on August 2nd. Before I left, about 2 months ago, most people were still unsure how to put COR, PUP, and BLU into PTs. I'm hopeing that someone cound clear up what is considered to be their "normal" role and what SJs are the "best" for those jobs.

    Thanks

No Ifs Ands or Buts about it.

i think general consensus is that PUPs don't
they're even less desired than DRGs

    Thanks Yyg!

I dont know if I would go that far, but lolPUP seems to be the new lolDRG. The main problem is that their highest skill (H2H) is B ratting, so near lvl 50-60, they really start to fall behind MNKs interms of acc and damage. This is sort of offset by their Automaton (parse's showing that the 2 combined are about equal/very little behind (with) other Melee, and surpass most melee on flying mobs with the RNG Frame). People are pretty short sited however and dismiss PUP since it doesn't help endgame (cause thats what this is all about  and it can't use Asuran Fists (though they just got Howling and Dragon kick) Anyway the 3 new jobs, imo fit like this:

BLU: Fills any DD spot in the PT with pretty good curing ability as well. Can be Pure DD or an pretty efficent healer with Magic Fruit (Long range Cure IV ftw)
COR: DD and buffer. RNG and BRDs pirate child. Very nice buffs, decent damage output. Can't fully replace BRD (or RDM), since lack of Dispel, but works very nicely along side them
PUP: DD with a pet. Pet can be "PLD" "RDM1" "RDM2" or "RNG". PLD frame is decent damage and sometimes is pretty good with Shield bash to stop WS (not a tank though). RDM1 has ok melee and can only use Cures and enfeebles. RDM2 has crap melee but gets up to Thunder III in black magic and Cure IV in healing. I think it can use enfeebles as well. RNG is a very strong DD, surprisingly accurate. PUP is completely dependent on the Automaton for full damage potential

        Thanks Gobo.
For sub jobs, I'm guessing that PUP/MNK is the only way to go. COR/RNG I would guess would be good also. But what about BLU? Do they just sub NIN or WAR depending on what they have?

No Ifs Ands or Buts about it.

Most BLUs end up subbing THF. End levels, BLU can solo a light Skillchain, leaving the other DD to spam their multi hit 1billion DMG WS, and give a BLM MB time.

I can't really speak for the upper tier of players, but I've seen COR act as a pretty decent DD, and they almost always end up pulling for the party. The various buffs he can add defintely help out the party, whether it be ACC up, Evasion up, or MP/tick up.

I was in a party the other night that had a BLU/NIN tanking, and doing pretty well at it. Good damage as well.

I'm about to lvl PUP myself, so I can add to this from what I have looked up.

/MNK is hands down the best Melee sub for PUP until 25, which is the lvl PUP gets its own Martial Arts trait and doesn't rely on /MNKs. From 25-50, /WAR probably will do a bit better than /MNK, since at 30 you get the wonderful Berserk. Post 50, its up to you and your play style really. /MNK get you Dodge(thats actually @30), Subtle Blow, Max HP+, Martial Arts II, Focus and a gimp Chikara. /WAR gets you Double Attack, Attack Bonus and Warcry. PUP can also /WHM for back up healling since most of their gear is Mage type.

COR can sub RNG(the sub most seem to prefer for the R Acc bonus), NIN (dual Archer's+Shadows for pulling) and even WHM.

Most BLU's I have seen /NIN, but there are also those who /THF and do very high burst damage with SA Chain Affinity "Physical Blue magic" (Like Death Scissors). Again /WHM also works if the BLU is acting as a healer/support (it can work) since Healing Breeze and Magic Fruits curing are increased by Healing Magic skill (go fig :/)

Re: Where do COR, PUP, and BLU fit into PTs?

The Pup in my Linkshell Subs thf Post 60 on his and his damage is pretty good every minute the fight lasts.

Blu is a Variable Support Job By Support I mean Attacker, Healer, tank.

I Sub Whm and rdm alot for My PT's, My thf isnt leveled high enough yet.
By attacker they provide good Dot on monsters and can Renkei Solo for Great damage.
With whm SJ aquaveil can stop interrupts when you are about to MB.

As Healer , I should've said support Attacker, this is What I go with when a PLD is the tank.
Since you are right in the heart of the fight, you can use your Blue Mage single or AOE cures and not worry about the monster running around stupidly like when a Support mage is healing.
The monster just turns to face you, and you turn away from him until tank repulls hate.

As a support tank with your evasion/stoneskin cocoon buffs You can take hate for short spurts of time and live while your group reorganizes or needs to recover.
