  • please help me.

Ok my new FFXI will get to my house through the mail this saturday or monday because they dont deliver on sundays. But i want to play a lot! i havent played in months.

Now i need to know some things.

    1. the last patch i seen was when we got all the ToAU stuff and i unlocked the three new jobs and sadly had to quit. what new patches have we had since then.

    2. once i install FFXI can I use my old account on the new computer?

    3. If i can use it, can i re activate my FFXI account and characters and such from the new computer or do I have to re activate everything from the original system/pc.

    4. Im currently on valefor as a taru taru but have literally nothing because i didnt think i would be coming back to FFXI, should i re start on another server or just continue in valefor. (on valefor i have every job unlocked and lots of quests done)

    5. I used to play on the PS2 and will now be on the PC. I will have to completely switch the way I play because ill now be using a keyboard and dont want to buy a controller for the PC. Is there anyway to learn how to play the PC version of FFXI like with the keys and everything before i actually get my FFXI in the mail? Like i know theres a program i used to that you can download on the FFXI site to see if your computer can handle FFXI and how well and i did that but are there any programs to get used to the game. Like a demo?

    6. tell me anything you think i should know

    Re: please help me.

    1) You're probably best off going to playonline.com and going through the update history.

    2) Yes.

    3) You can do it from the new computer.

    4) That's your choice. Do you want to start everything over and begin the game again new?

    5) The benchmark program isn't really interactive. Movement is done though numpad. Actually...a lot of things are done though numpad. If you don't like using the keyboard, you can probably find a cheap USB converter that lets you use a PS2 controller on your PC.

        2. Can always use the same account on any version.

        3. If SE did not delete your account from inactivity, then it should be there. I have heard it is a full year till that happens. Don't count my word on it.

        4. Keep your current character. Try to remember the hassle of it all.

        5. Play on a low lvl job to practice on the PC controls.

        6. *Shrug* I have not played in two years. Which is why I did not answer number one.

That USB Controller is a good option, perhaps another keyboard you can connect too. I think that is possible, though I do not know Laptops well.

Menu > Config > Keyboard/Misc (I can never remember the label for the button) > Compact Layout.

That'll give you WASD movement. From there you might want to look into customizing your keybindings so you can get camera/menu movement and commands that feel natural to you. You can set up keys to do everything a controller would do except analog movement/camera and moving back and forth across the macros (you have to do Alt/Ctrl+#).

Just go farming or something to get used to it. There's no demo or anything.

There is no rush. If you're not willing to take your time, don't be surprised when no one wants to give you much of theirs.

            Re: please help me.

If you're used to the Playstation2, I'd recommend buying a USB adapter and using one. I switched, and never looked back to keyboarding it.

Radio Shack makes a very nice USB converter for Playstation controllers, which I myself use to play on my PC

            http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...Id=2036260&cp=
            2032062.2032403.2032410.2032414&allCount=65&fbn=Type%2FPlayStation+
            2&f=PAD%2FProduct+Type%2FPlayStation+2&fbc=1&parentPage=family

Sorry for the nasty-huge link there, radioshack.com seems to have a thing for LONG URLS.

Anyway, it adds all the functionality of a PS1 controller, and it's worked just fine for me.

Here's one specifically FOR the PS2 controller, but I don't know anything about it.

            http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...Id=2348187&cp=
            2032062.2032403.2032410.2032414&allCount=65&fbn=Type%2FPlayStation+
            2&f=PAD%2FProduct+Type%2FPlayStation+2&fbc=1&parentPage=family

Do not, I repeat, =DO NOT= buy any of those PC controllers that LOOK like Playstation controllers, including the Logitech Rumblepad. Not only do they feel cheap, but I never could get the analog sticks to work correctly (they kept 'losing' their calibration somehow!).

              Re: please help me.

Not that I want to encourage Takiri to use a controller if he doesn't want to anymore, but I've had absolutely no problems with my Logitech controller. And my anecdotal evidence is the finest available, so obviously you're simply mistaken.
