  • Expansion Packs

I am returning to FFXI. When I bought the PS2 version, it had Rise of the Zilart pre-installed (it came with it). I never purchased Chains of Promathia, and the newer one came out after I "quit." So, I only have RoZ. I know i can still play with this.

    1) If I get the never of (Treasuer of somthing) so I still need to get Chains of Promathia?

    2) Are the expansion packs worth buying? What new stuff do they have?

you will need both, and imo they they are a lot of rare ex itens that are really nice in the cop zones and the RoZ city has become the new jeuno, plus there are the new zones which many are high lvl exp spots, and missions.

      Re: Expansion Packs

You can play FFXI even withno expansions installed, however:

      (1) You cannot enter any zone where you currently do not have the associated expansion for. So players without Chains of Promathia cannot enter popular zones like Bibiki Bay. This can be a severe hindrance when trying to form level up parties.

      (2) You cannot participate in any quest or mission that is assocated with that expansion. ENM battlefields are all in Chains of Promathia zones, for instance, so you cannot participate in ENM without this expansion.

      (3) You cannot acquire any jobs which require an expansion for the associated quest. Players without Treasures of Aht Urghan cannot undertake the quests to unlock the Puppetmaster, Corsair, and Blue Mage jobs. Note that you CAN see other players with these jobs - you just can't play one yourself since you can't activate the job quest without the expansion.

As far as I know, you can install ToAU without CoP, so no, you don't need one to install the next, but it's still a good idea to get them for convenience if nothing else.

Cool. At what level do the expansion packs become needed to complete quests and form parties? My WHM was around 30 when i left.

And, Icemage, I remember you when I was part of these forums. You were the best member and always helped me constantly. It's great to see you became part of the staff, congratulations you deserve it.

          Re: Expansion Packs

bibiki bay is a popular levelling ground for party after level 60 up until 70ish. This area can be entered freely once you installed and registered the expansion.

The first chains of promathia story mission caps at level 30. But it's unlikely you'll do it right at level 30. It requires quite a lot of preparation and money.

The Treasure of Aht Urghan zones are geared more toward level 55+ players, there's no lower level zones at all. You can start the missions and do it at much lower level but you won't be using this expansion much until you reach 60+.

OK I see, thanks. I think i'll play without them for a while and make sure I am def keeping FFXI and if I do i'll buy CoP and wait to buy ToAU.
