  • Haven't played in 1.5 years ... worth returning?

I quit this game about October 2004. I was a mid-60s PLD in one of the top NA LS on Bahamut (Kaminote), but a quit for a variety of reasons:

    1) Started working full time, so only had a few hours to play a day.
    2) Finding a PT as a PLD was almost impossible for a couple reasons:
    a) JP or NA NIN was always a better choice
    b) too many other PLDs
    c) forming PTs was not usually a feasible choice as not enough RDM, WHM, BLM, RNG, etc.
    3) Farming was tedious and cumbersome. NMs were hard to get as they were farmed by gilbots. The time I quit was around the time that gil botting become a much bigger problem.
    4) A lot of members of my LS quit as well
    5) Too much JP/NA division. Even though I spoke japanese, there was an obvious rift between JP and NA players. Not to mention the top JP LS would totally dominate any HNM spawns.

Thats about all I can remember. I have since lost my version of the game (and my character) so if I started again it would be from level 1. but i DO have a very strong understanding of the game mechanics and other various aspects of the game. I also noticed that they introduced 3 new jobs (part of the reason i'm interested in possibly returning)

Is it worth coming back? I've read there are issues with inflation (making gil buying almost a necessity???). Are there enough players to make solid parties? or NA players, on average, better than they were 1.5 years ago?

Its worth coming back for the expansion. Its a lot of fun ^^ There is inflation but hey, the worse gear you have the more of a life you have :p . Players still suck. Xbox people tend to be really bad right now but they are new.

Not going to respond to any of those statements in your post.

Simply going to say: it doesn't matter what they fix, if you liked what they didn't need to fix then it is worth returning.

I'd say yes, however that's pretty biased considering I'm playing it.

Paladin has recieved Auto-Refresh, which puts them a little closer to Nins in tanking.

NA's and JP's are on equal footing now, the year they got on us means little to nothing now. I've noticed I'm being invited to a lot more JP parties as well, and also JP players are accepting my invites. The reason for this being that the shitty NA players have been weeded out, for the most part. XBox brought in a few newbs, but it's not that much of a problem past Valk.

Inflation is rotten, as usual, HOWEVER buying gil is not the way to go. I've farmed my way to 1.3m, a pair of Leaping Boots and a whole whack of other stuff with no trouble what so ever.

Party making is easy, there's loads of people leveling with the new jobs (Which can fill a multitude of roles) and there's always plenty of great LS's to join.

        See you in game, hopefully!

Edit: Also note that another "Return to Vana'diel Campaign" is in effect, meaning you can revive old accounts and characters with certain information.

The game has changed a lot, but the core of the game is still the same. If you didn't like it then, you probably won't get high enoughto like it now.

This is true, there's new equips and Assualt*, and PLD has had a few adjustments, other than that, same old, same old.

I'd say it's not worth it, you'll probably end up bored or something. Unless what turned you off was lack of instanced battles*(3-6 people) where you gain points that you can use for gear.

Umm no. He said Oct of 2004.

That's even before CoP, it wasn't last week. It's like people don't read or something.

There's multiple changes, so numerous, there's no begining to it. The food change alone has change it.

The core is still the same, if you liked it, then most likely you'll still like it, if not, move on.
