Hey. I'm an old time player, all the way back to the beta. I slowly got too frustrated with FFXI in mid 2004, then got a way from my computer and had no motivation to return. Somewhat reluctantly, I tried WoW and had fun with it, but it didn't last long. But every now and then I'd reflect on the great moments of FFXI, like when I actually got in a good group; and suddenly, on Saturday, I got this huge urge to come back. And hey, there's another welcome back program, too, so everything is working out.
I'll try to make my questions unique.
-In practice, how has the latest patch affected the RNG? Does it make it almost unplayable, or does it just require you to think about how you fight? (which I'm all for; I take pride in being a good RNG, mostly to make up for being a horrible RDM)
-What's up with the story/world? I mostly ask because ToAU introduces a whole new continent, so I was wondering if that was introduced in any cool way while I was gone. Did a new land mass just appear out of nowhere one day? In general, was there anything cool I missed?
-Anyone in Phoenix got anything major to say? I assume the economy is ok compared to some of the other servers.
-I never bought Chains of Promathia; how urgent of a buy do you think it is? I'm returning as a 30 RNG, Rank 5. Also, I couldn't find any single copies of it at gamestop.com or ebgames.com. Even though $20 for the Collector's edition is a good price, does anyone know if most stores have old copies of CoP?
-Basically the same question: do you think ToAU is an urgent buy? Of course, you all might not know for a few more days, but is Aht Urghan of any use to a lvl 30? I must say though, after really looking into it, I'm pretty excited about the additions; I've been looking for something like the new Besieged system for a long time. As unfair as it would be to most people, I always wished the Beastmen would launch random attacks on Windurst or something.
-Has Ballista improved? As excited as I was to see Ballista implemented, I never actually played it (and hated myself for it for a good few months), but I remember that people lost interest in it sorta quickly.
Thanks. I won't be coming back until I return home from college in early May and get back to my PC, so I'm hoping my determination will last until then. I also gotta prepare for the loooooong patch.
