Hello! I am returning to playing FFXI after not playing for quite awhile. My Character is a lvl 39 white mage/black mage. l am in the process of trying to set up my macros, but I do not remember how to do them. Anyone that can please advise and or list a good set up for the macros would be great.

lengthly discussion already here. There are painters who transform the sun into a yellow spot,
but there are others who with the help of their art and their intelligence
transform a yellow spot into the sun.

Re: Returning to game need help w/macros
i was starting to make a macro-writing guide awhile back, but i never finished it
here was my part about white mages. if there's some commands you don't understand (like <st> and <bt> lol), just try them out in-game. type the commands exactly as i've written them and see what they do. they're simple enough to understand once you see them in action. if you have any questions after you try them out, feel free to ask

CTRL-1 Regen
/recast "Regen"
/ma "Regen" <stpc>
/echo regen >>> <lastst>
/wait 16 (i think it's 16)
/echo ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~REGEN READY~~~~~~~~~~~~
/echo regen last cast on >>> <lastst>
controller players keep the icon over this ctrl-1. you can then click left one time for erase, or you can click right one time for haste. keep your cures at the top of your menu, and simply cast the cure spells themselves from the menu. that way, to cure you just open menu and press left to autoscroll to the top of the list.
CTRL-2 haste (you'll get haste soon enough make sure you keep it on the ninjas!)
/recast "Haste"
/ma "Haste" <st>
/echo hasting >>>>> <lastst>
/wait ##
/echo ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~haste is ready~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
/echo last hasted >>>>> <lastst>
CTRL- 3, 4, 5 -cure II-IV.
/equip "Current gear that boosts cures"
/recast "Cure IV"
/ma "Cure IV" <st> keyboards then press the appropriate F key to target the player you want.
<stpc> targets someone in your party and <stnpc> targets the mob you're fighting (or the nearest non-player thing). try it out and you'll see what i'm talking about.
CRTL 6, 7, 8 leave blank
use these spots when needed. certain spells are needed only at certain camps. for example, at some camps, stona is vital, while at others, it's just a waste of space. some status ailements, like poison, aren't cured with erase ( wtf??? lol). also, if you don't have erase, put your status cures here. personally, i have erase, and i just leave poisona and stona here until i'm at a camp where i need something else. i also happen to have cure 5 macro'd, but i believe that one to be unneccessary.
CTRL-9 party buffs
/p party buffs! (protectra) (shellra)
/ta <me>
/ma "Protectra" <stpc>
/wait 8
/ma "Shellra" <me>
CTRL-0 Erase
/recast "Erase"
/ma "Erase" <stpc> and press the approporiate f key to target if you're on a keyboard. on a controller, press up or down to target pt members. just try it out in your next pt, and you'll see what it does!
---ALT KEYS---
ALT-1 Dia 2 (or dia 1)
/ma "Dia" <bt>
/recast "Dia"
ALT-2 slow
/equip swap proper mnd gear if necessary
/ma "Slow" <bt>
ALT-3 paralyze
/equip swap proper gear
/ma "Paralyze" <bt>
neat trick: type /ta <bt> to target the mob the rest of the pt is targetting. you can even put it in a macro in one of the empty spots if you want. i do that on my tanking jobs, but i don't do it on whm. just some gee-wizz info.
ALT-5 sleep
/recast "Sleep"
/ja "Elemental Seal" <stpc>
/p (sleep) ing <t> please don't wake it!
/wait 1
/ma "Sleep" <t> for those nasty links
ALT-6 silence
/recast "Silence"
/ma "Silence" <t>
sometimes you need to silence nearly every mob (quicksand caves comes to mind) so personally, i prefer to save elemental seal for sleeping links. what you do, however, is up to you.
ALT-7 non-resting gear
/equip body "Holy Breastplate"
/equip main "Solid Wand"
plus whatever other equipment you prefer. after using alt-8, press this macro to put your gear back the way you want it for battle
ALT-8 resting gear
/equip main "Dark Staff"
/equip body "Seer's Tunica"
/equip legs "Baron's slops"
/heal
plus whatever other gear you may have that helps with mp recovery, for resting. putting /heal at the end is optional.
ALT-9 mp say
/s MP = <mp> THATS <mpp>
i found this useful when powerlevelling. you may or may not want it.
ALT-0 mp party
/p (white mage) MP = <mp> THATS <mpp>
don't put <hp> or <tp> in it, sometimes that's too much information for battle. sometimes people, in a rush, will read HP = 100% and misread it to think it's their skillchain partner saying TP = 100% and fire their weaponskill. i've had it happen before, to me and to pt members. trust me, everyone knows when you get low hp, don't worry.
notice how i put precedence on regen? regen is an awesome spell ! if you keep regen on key players all or most of the time, you end up almost never having to cure except in emergencies, and you can keep your mp bar high to make chains easier to get.
i'll add more in later. i also plan to come back and tweak this macro setup a bit, after i test this out in-game for awhile.
also, here's another thread someone else started on a similar subject
