  • Possible returning, a few Q's :)

A few quick questions I'd like to know before I return, if i do that is.

The new expansions, Chains and the next one. Did chains really add much to the low end game? Or is it still the same linear progression? (I got as far as Valkrum Dunes, and to my knowledge that was the only place to really go at level 12-20.)

Is it too late to join this late in the game? I'm not a big fan of the idea that items and gil never really leave the world, so the economies aren't the best.

I currently play World of Warcraft right now, because it's the most fun in PVP I've ever played in an RPG. How is the FFXI PVP? I've heard of it, but dont know the idea behind it, or what you do in it, just straight kill other players?

Whats a BNC? or BCN? Or whatever its called? If i recall, at level 40 you can fight waves of monsters in an instance with a PT?

Are there end game main bosses or raids? I'm not looking for 40+ player raids, really, but anything would be fun.

I really want to play a NIN/THF, SAM/WAR, or PAL/WAR, should i make an Elvaan?

I'll think of more questions soon. I don't know how manyu times I've posted here asking questions, then a few months/years go by, and i forgot the answers and never returned to FFXI.

I was an origional US PC release player, played for a while to about level 18, got my subjob, and stopped, for whatever reason. Too much running around all over, everything took way too much time to do, anything that they've implemented to tone that down a bit? Or will i still be making the Sandy -> Dunes run a lot?

Re: Possible returning, a few Q's

    1) CoP was mostly a story addon (great plot I think) it adds a new end game zone but it can be bothersome at times trying to find people to do the missions with. This is when a good LS comes in handy :D.

    2) Absolutely not. It's never too late to join, in fact now is a perfect time. With the new expansion and Xbox 360 versions coming out in a month, there'll be tons of new players to lvl low jobs with. The economy is bad, I'm not going to lie. But SE is trying their best. And although prices may be absurd, it's also absurdly easy to make lots of money now thanks to inlfation, farming is now easier. I find fishing to be very fun (the "new" fishing, well new to me.) and it's pretty profitable. It's much easier/more fun than farming.

    3) PvP in WoW is fun, but in FFXI it's different. See FFXI promotes unity, cooperation and teamwork. Real heavy influence on community. PvP is getting better. Ballista when I tried it was horrible, just a huge zerg fest. But then I did a match with some LS members and I had tons of fun, once everything is organized and everyone does their part, it can be a blast. There is no 1v1 Ballista is Team vs Team. I'm not sure about Brenner, haven't played that yet. I hear it's like capture the flag. Could someone else elaborate on Brenner? But they have a few pvp things planned still to come. Instead of PvP FFXI is more PvE, and in place of PvP they want to add mass raids in which players must unite and work as a team to fight off monsters in the new expansion. Seems very fun to me^^

    4) BNC? I think you're talking about BCNM. BCNM means literally (Burning Circle Notorious Monster) Do you remember those beastmen seals you used to find all over the place? Don't chuck them out, they are very valuable. You save those up and trade them to an NPC in Jeuno for an Orb. Say, trade 20 and he gives you a Cloudy Orb for the lvl20 BCNM. BCNMs are lvl capped areas, and are instanced. You and your PT must defeat all the mobs and you can get a treasure chest. That's basically it. People do these for items or for items to sell for money.

    5) There are no end game raid bosses, you're thinking of WoW's dungeon system. FFXI end game experience is much different. It revolves around HNM (Huge Notorious Monster, Hyper Notorious Monster, etc.) This basically means, HUGE hard to beat monsters. An alliance can only consist of 18 players max, but often at HNM fights there are more like 30-40 people, who get rotated in and out of the three PTs. There are sort of end game "bosses" so to speak. The gods, Byakko, Genbu, Seryu, and Suzaku and the Final God Kirin. There are also several other lesser HNMs that are camped by HNM Linkshells (yes to HNM it is typical that you get into a full HNM LS once you hit 70-75) Serket, Guivre, etc.

    6) NO! Do NOT let anyone tell you that you MUST be a certain race to be any job. Any race can kick butt at any job. Be which ever race you wish.

    7) they have made slight changes, but FFXI is very time consuming game. It takes a lot of work and effort and commitment, but I think it's still fun and love it^^

Re: Possible returning, a few Q's

        Heh, thanks.

Well, the end game bosses sound similar to WoW's , same basic idea, take a bunch of people and kill a big monster (in the end).

Yea, I've always always wanted to play a Ninja, super cool looking and origional to MMORPGs. I really really do want to play. I just went on a one week break from WoW, tried it again tonight cuz I was bored... and logged off like an hour later.

The only thing I'm afraid of is learning a new MMORPG. I dont know nearly as much about FFXI as I do about WoW, and im not even close to knowing 25% of the info that i should know about the end game (im close to max level).

Im afraid of a big new MMORPG, (sort of new), but maybe thats what i need? Well, i know I need something to keep me occupied until FFXII (Demo rocks!)

Anyway. If I happen to choose to switch again, I'll be looking for a LS to join. The only guilds etc I like joining are family friendly groups. I hate not being in one, even from day one, i enjoy having friends, not being isolated and alone in the big world.

I'll probably start as a BLM, just to make life easier until 18. Then I'll start back as a WHM/BLM. taru taru of course! ^^_

        Anyway. Thanks for the info.

By the way, you said FFXI is doing their best to clean up the economies. What exactly ARE they doing? The last thing i remember them doing is adding much bigger taxes to the AH a year or so ago.

1-10 BLM sucks... but 10-18 flys by ^^

As for nin, please sub war not thf.

FFXI is alot slower paced than WOW, so you'll have plenty of time to learn the game and how it works.

            .
This statement is true if he plans on tanking. As Nin's werent originally meant to tank, if he found a setup where he would act as a DD, /thf might be useful for SATA when that point was reached.

These forums must be lagging, i still see your post as the "last post" Thachsanh

              Double Post Edited:
Yea it'll probably end up being /war instead of /thf, i just like the idea more of thf =p
