with enough time, anything is possible. duo to 30 on EP? sure. @ 1k/hour (really rough guess) it'll just take you ~100 hours; less if you can afford pricey meds to reduce downtime. if you deem that worth it, then yes you can duo to 30.

Well to some people, playing the game is having multiple level 75 jobs within a year, or even a few months.
Personally I could handle it taking a year to get to 75 with one job. I have plenty of time to play. I just can't do it all in one big chunk.

i think what people are trying to say is that this game is designed towards party play. thats the mentality of the game. to adventure with others, forge battle hardened bonds and go through hardships together. yes, you can, very very very slowly, chip away at xp to 50. it might take you a vast amount of time to reach it but it is possible. however, there are so many things along the way that you cannot do w/o a party. all AF pieces, you need a party. (im assuming you dont have a high lvl friend/char to use) all missions that involve some sort of nm battle, you need a party/alliance. genkai 1 and 2, you need a party. even with a party, they can be long and arduous. even with npc friends, they dont last forever.

this is just the design of the game. its not solo/duo oriented with the exception of the bst job. i know how it is to not have a huge chunk of time to play, but the fact is, this is just how the game is.

Well to some people, playing the game is having multiple level 75 jobs within a year, or even a few months.
Personally I could handle it taking a year to get to 75 with one job. I have plenty of time to play. I just can't do it all in one big chunk.

i've been playing this game over a year, and i still don't have a single job at 75.

and i party every night.

unless you duo as bsts, this will take you forever- and i do mean forever. not like 1 year to 75, more like 4 years to 75, unless you take breaks and days off.

if you duo as bsts, then getting to 75 will only take you a couple months, maybe a year tops if you don't play too much each day.

duoing as bsts is not only possible, but also ideal for that job.

duoing as anything else? not. this game is hard enough as it is.

I think that's the worst thing I've heard.

The idea that soloing, or duoing is possible on only one job is disgusting. I don't understand why one BST is considered capable of soloing, but a duo is not.

Does everyone actually agree that a BST is better than any combination of two non-bst players?

By the way, I know she's talking about two BSTs, but I've heard from many people that a single BST can solo to 75 without too much trouble. I've even read up on how they do it. I just can't believe that a single BST can defeat enemies faster and with less downtime than a combination of any two other players plus their NPCs.

yes, one BST with a pet will do better than 2 other jobs duoing. why? because an EM pet is MUCH tougher than an EM (same level) player. why do you think after 10 it's practically impossible to solo EM mobs on most jobs?

it already sounds like returning to the game is not for you. do yourself the favor and just accept it and move on.

There were a change made to the way linked mobs work and that had taken away BST ability to solo by quite a lot.

before that patch, BST was really THE solo job.
Because monsters in this game, the higher level they are, the stronger they will be compare to same level players.
Which is the reason why we need party to take them on :O
But, a BST level 50 for example, taming a mob level 50 means he'll have a really tough companion. maybe comparable to a 65 player I dunno, but they're that strong.
A party of BST can level at even faster pace than normal parties.

I don't know much about BST situation right now, but I guess some present BST can fill us in about that.

But nothing's perfect... BST got nerfed in a few patches ago indirectly.
I heard their solo ability dropped quite a lot with that "train" patch.

I really hated it when it happened. screwed up many of my duo-ing spots and I quit in frustration. i'm back to give it another go. i'll let you know how it turns out this time in 70 levels (WHM to 35 -> BST to 35)

I'm fighting it becase I want to play the game but I know that forming parties on my own, or waiting for them to pick me up while I stand around doing nothing is just not possible for me.

I don't mind being in a party. I don't mind interacting with people. It's just that setting up a party or waiting for one to set up can take most or all of the time that I have available to play in one sitting. It would be very rude for me to set one up, or accept an invite to a party just to leave after a few minutes. It also wouldn't be all that productive.

I'm trying to think of a way to duo during the time I can't be in a party. I am aware that duoing IS a posibility in FFXI. I've read posts by people who have successfully duoed most of their time playing and done well (this was over a year ago so don't ask me to find it).

I was not expecting such a harsh treatment of the duoing issue. Sure, a 6 person team should be faster than any duo. I'm not saying that I should be able to circumvent the system entirely. I just want another option, and I don't think it's asking too much.

If I can get 100xp per kill without all that much downtime I'll make it. That's one third the speed of a decent group.

Ive only once waited over 15 mins as a BLM up to lvl25 and i bet the jobs that are even higher in demand will get quick invites too.

How about rdm/smn and brd/whm to duo worms, one nukes and scilences(smn is for the large mp pool to reduce downtime) and one refreshes and heals, i know both are advance jobs and you need to get to lvl 30 first but thats the only other good duo option that i can think of.

duo for 100 exp is only possible if the melee is lvl 37+ ninja imo...
I really recommend against going this path. I don't know but the time you can play is really short, I doubt you'll enjoy this game with such a limitting time

Soloing later on from my own record, I can get about 300-400 exp an hour.
And I'm a Rdm with very little downtime myself.
Duoing usually give me less... but easier time fighting.
below 50 I guess you need no more than 10k exp so it might not be too bad... 30 hours for 1 level? that will take you 1 month?
But when you need 40,000 exp per level. 3 months a level?

hmmm duo is pretty much harder unless you go for bst in term of exp wise.
I try 3 person pt and doing good.

after 10, getting 100/kill w/o downtime is rarely possible (special exceptions exists like RNG on worms). like I said eariler, a rough estimate would be about 1k/hour (BSTs average 2k/hour pre-nerf, now...). It's 100550 to hit level 30, 235550 to 50, 369550 to 60 and 837550 to 75. you can do the math yourself to determine if it's worth it to you.
