  • Re-Installation Problems =(

So I've finally decided to come back to FFXI after more than a year of not playing. I install all 7 discs and start the updates. PlayOnline updated fine and so I moved onto updating FFXI. After over 2 hours of checking and downloading files, it gets to the updating files part, it has 1 file left to update (1/4027). And as it's skipping thru files to update the last one it freezes. I leave it sit there for 15 minutes before deciding to close PlayOnline Viewer. I re-start the Viewer and attempt to play FFXI only to be told the last update didn't go thru and I must re-install FFXI. So I guess it'll be another 3 hours before I have a chance to play =(

i'm guessing you're on pc, if you are this often helps:

          1) uninstall the program, in this case FFXI
          2) Scan Disk
          3) Defrag
          4) Restart
          5) Reinstall
          6) Restart again

it's helped me with other programs before

yeah, I learned the hard way too, luckilly I was able to find my install disk.

I never delete shared files anymore....

since all those files are in .cab files (like a .zip) you might have to install the whole thing, and update that too >.>

                  Re: Re-Installation Problems =(

Can you enter the prompt on your computer (I.e. A:\ prompt?) if so, download the dll file from http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?hal and put it in your system folder. have you tried starting in safe mode and selecting your last restore point?

Thats all I can suggest other than re-installing the whole operating system.

sometimes reinstalling the OS is a good thing. it keeps windows sane.

God this happened to me too! First a headache because of the download problem, THEN the computer crashes, and I had to reformat, because even after repairing Windows was seriously MESSED UP. I haven't even played FFXI and I'm begginning to question why I'm coming back o.0 It comes to mind that it's when I played FFXI that I had all the computer problems. but alas...the addiction is strong with this one. If all goes well, I'll be able to play maybe tonight. I'm just afraid of it decided to messup at the end of the update again. Maybe tonight I will be able to play for the first time in over 8months. :0)
