Worth for me to come back?

I used to play alot of MMORPGS and had to stop b/c they took up too much time. My first was AC1 which I played for a few years and got to lv 144 on the PVP server. Tried EQ1, got board, didn't get far, COH very fun but I wanted a more fantasy based game, and FFXI which I got a RDM Lv11 and finnaly gave up after all the time it took leveling and it seemed like it was a total grind, no one to talk to ect. I've also been playing guild wars which I love, but the 3D part of my GPU has been fried for 3 months now (need to log on w/ the laptop not to loose account!).

Recently, I got FFIV Advance and I LOVE it. I now feel all infatuated with the whole "FF Universe" and everything. Like most MMORPGS, after a few years, alot of stuff becomes easier and lower leveling is made a ton easier. Took me 3 days of playing FFXI about 2-3 hours a day to get to lv 11 (rerolled 3x as different caracters but not to lv 11). I want to possibly start up again, but I just don't have the time to wait 4 hours for a party. The people who wait 4 hours for a party, are you sitting at your computer the entire time or are you AFK? Also, can you now alt-tab to look up websites?

Well... I don't sit there the whole time I'm afk... the longest I've been afk is 20 minutes... but that's probably because I'm a WHM. Melee's tend to have longer wait times. As for alt-tabbing... you could do that with a windower program. It is not authorized by S-E but it does exist if you want to risk using it.

level a brd or rdm and u wount have to wait for pt longer then other job.
once a brd get balla(lv25 and 55) and a rdm get refresh ( lv41) then they will get invite for sure. Or play a bst and u solo most of the time then pting

i build almost all my own pts, so i almost never wait longer than 15-20 minutes for a party. if there aren't enough people seeking at the moment, i just go do something else and try to build a pt later.

if you don't have time to wait for a party, play a mage. that's any mage- they are all in high demand and get asked to pt when they're not even seeking one.

RDM/BRD
BRD/WHM-Proboly only skill set that's "good"

erm, are these the job combo's that you're planning to use? >.>

as for these job combos...um, i know you don't understand the game very well yet, but most of these combos simply won't work for most pickup parties. not to say you need to be "perfect," but if you don't even have the most basic of abilities, you won't be able to function. a pld without /war (provoke) has a very, very hard time tanking unless you're in a static pt with a specific strategy based around it. there are subs for rdm that will give you more beneficial abilities than /drk, and will make the game easier and more fun for you to play. rdm/brd is good, but requires a specific strategy that i don't know very well.

brd/whm rocks for invites though. as a brd/whm, you will have to go /anon when you don't want to pt, and it's relatively easy to fund too. of the jobs you mentioned, i suggest you try brd/whm.

ya, read the PLD FAQ, and read how in most cases it CAN be done well, just no where as well as WAR. I was thinking instead of buying mega expensive armor all the time, wear a lil less then par armor, and constantly heal yourself when HP gets low creating massive hate on yourself b/c hate is factored on how much is healed.

Was thinking for more sword attribute from BRD but I'll have to double Check. also, having a mage class subed with some BL spells, can they actually land and do any damage or are they just MP waste and pretty to look at?

Also, If I start WHM to 18
Then RDM/WHM to 30 (then get bard quest)
how long do you think the prosses will take if I follow a Lvling FAQ?

I would suggest taking Blm to 18 as a sub for Whm, then Whm to 30 or 37, then you can unlock the Brd job and take it from there. Blm is a very enjoyable job at times, moreso than Rdm at the early levels, and will be a better sub for Whm.

most black mage spells cast from /blm are a waste of mp for most jobs, yes. by the time your subjob gets the spells, they are out of date.

oh, and the pld subbing whm and grabbing hate with cures really can't be done until the higher levels, if at all. in valkrum dunes, a paladin pretty much tanks just like a warrior, but with a couple cures to help hold hate.

but don't worry about the cost of the equipment. as long as you buy your gear from an npc, your paladin gear is reeeally cheap for quite awhile.

Bard is terrible at dealing melee damage, and besides all your time will be spent running around the party so it's unlikely you'll have time to melee at all.

Honestly your best bet for BRD would be BRD/WHM. This is for a couple of reasons:

- /WHM sub will give you a much better Charisma boost (the most important stat for BRD).
- BRD should almost never be subbed because you can't use an instrument for songs. This is bad for 2 reasons. You won't be able to use an instrument to make your songs stronger, and you'll only be able to have 1 song running on each member of the party at a time (instead of 2)

- /WHM sub will give you the ability to toss out the occasional cure, and remove defuffs from party members.


having a /BLM sub on BRD is pretty useless in all cases. Your subjob can only be 1/2 of your main. A level 20 character will have a sub equal to 10. A level 10 BLM couldn't even make a mark on a level 20ish mob.

You should check out some BRD FAQs. It's 100% support job, meaning your job it to make your party work better, not to deal damage, etc...

if you want to deal melee damage, don't be a bard lmao. even dark knights and samurai and the other melee-dd's sometimes have a hard time hurting the mob with weapons. if you want to be a melee, just be a melee.

if you want to be a nuker, just be a nuker. don't be a bard, then expect to be a blm. even the full-fledged blm's sometimes have a hard time hurting the mobs with spells, with up-to-date gear and spells. what chance do you think a bard will have, trying to be a black mage? if you want to nuke, just be a blm (not a rdm, they don't nuke much anymore). if you want to summon, just be a summoner.

as said above, a bard is a support character. you cast songs on the other players to raise their stats so THEY can perform better. and you have songs you can cast on the mob to lower the mob's stats, so your pt members can do their jobs easier. you can also recover your pt members' hp and mp using regen-type songs.

my first time playing, i started as a rdm/warrior because i wanted to melee. jeez, i was such a newb, lol. i would have been soooo much more useful to everyone around me, as well as to myself, if i had just chosen a melee job from the start, or had subbed a mage and played as a mage. instead, i tried to play a job in a way different from how it was meant to be played. i'm surprised no one complained at how useless i was.

the "common" job combos are that way because, most of the time, they work the best.

Reason I'm considering RDM starting is just in case I want to actually be a RDM or do fun stuff with one such as RDM/NIN if I ever change my mind.

Now all I gota do is finish RMA'ing my 6800GT to newegg and I can start up again!

and if you find you don't like bard for whatever reason, remember there is no real penalty in changing jobs
