Need advice/help, please

Hey everyone. I recently made the decision to return to FFXI... I bought the PC version a few months after release but quit in June of '04. I've been getting the "Cravings" for a while and decided that it's about time to return.

Problem is, I tried re-installing everything only to discover the registration code on my manual is "invalid". Would this be because it was once registered to a member (me)? I canceled long ago and have no doubt my old info is long gone... I'm just trying to start over from scratch here. (this is the POL Viewer I'm talking about... I can't make a new ID)

So, I'll try calling the support line, naturally... but I'm wondering if anyone went through the same thing and if they have any advice. Any hint as to why the code might not be working properly (I'm dead positive I entered it correctly)

A friend of mine had the same problem. I believe he had to buy a new client. This wouldn't be too bad seeing as you can get all 3 currently out in the use for 1 low price.

Yeah, I wasn't too worried about buying a new one and was almost expecting to have to. I don't have the CoP expansion, so this'll get me it too... I only hope it's sold on CDRoM instead of DVD. I haven't put in a DVD Drive yet. Ah well... I'll check it all out. Thanks

It's DVD only I believe:

On the upside, a DVD Rom is what? $20?

Yeah, Canadian around $30 or so, I think. Probably about time I made that jump anyway... I just hope I can find a copy of the game at my local EBGames. Maybe I should check that out first.

I'm in Canada too.. Hopefully you'll have better luck finding a local copy. Out here (Fredericton, NB) I couldn't find a copy of the collectors ed. or the normal for PC. Had to order it from Amazon.com Came out to ~$50 CDN with shipping + the exchange rate.

Actually, I've been calling around for prices... seems that the only shop that might carry it (or at least that can tell me by phone) is on back order. Good news is, I was just on the chat-help with a PoL Representative. It seems they might be able to recover my old account... not the characters, but at least maybe my ID and password so I can start over.

If that works, I just have to worry about getting the expansion... which I think Gamestop will ship to Canada for not too much.


Ah well... even if its a wait before I can play, it'll be worth it. I should have never left

Yeah I know how you feel. WoW and GW wasn't really worth leaving FFXI (for me anyhow). What server are you going to join? I'll be going back to Midgardsormr when my game gets here next week.

Not really sure. Seeing as how none of my old characters will be around, I don't really have any ties to any server. After nearly two years, everyone I used to play with is moved on and such...

I figure this time will be about making new friends on whatever server I land on, unless I get a WP. The great thing about FFXI was that even if I couldn't afford the same amount of time to playing as everyone else, the community was great. I really loved everyone I met and even just chatting with them while looking for a group was a blast. Making new game friends will be something I look forward to!

Blast!! Turns out I'll have to buy the software again afterall! Ah well... I reserved my copy from EB Games, so hopefully it'll be here within the next week or so. Looks like I'll be getting in almost the same time as you, Meeyutu

Whoot! Just checked my messages over lunch at work and my copy of the Collection's in. I'll be picking it up after work and installing this evening. Hopefully I should be set and playing tomorrow, maybe even a bit of soloing tonight. Wish me luck!
