I'm thinking about coming back...err well I know I'm coming back, but I'm thinking about starting from scratch, and I was curious what other people think of doing that? I wanted to start on an all new server on my own again, since my old LS has disbanded. My previous char was a male Tarutaru 30/BLM and my only notable other jobs was 15/WAR and 18/WHM...I don't think it's too much of a loss but I'm curious what others would do in my situation. Thanks for any replies ^^

Re: Just wondering what other people think about starting over
Well if you really wanted to come back then you don't need any opinions because you already made up your mind. But since you asked, it sounds like you may not have acomplished a whole lot your last time around so it would be no big deal to start over again. In this situation it would be no big deal to me either. You kill one man, your a murderer
Kill many and your a conquerer
Kill them all... your a God.

Re: Just wondering what other people think about starting over
i started over once. i left behind a 24 whm and a 14 rdm.
leaving behind the jobs wasn't such a big deal, but ever since i left, i've had mixed feelings about it. ive done fine on my new server, but i keep wondering if i would have done better on the old one.
don't start over just because your ls disbanded. that happens all the time, on every server. mine just disbanded a couple weeks ago. just stay on this server and give yourself a couple weeks. you'll find a new one, just as good if not better. i did.
and if you stay, you won't have to do your subjob quest again. not to mention the chocobo quest <shudder...>
you only sound a little burtned out atm. it happens to us all. don't do anything you might regret later. starting over on a new server doesn't give you anything good, imo... (most of the time, at least)

Re: Just wondering what other people think about starting over
I started over. I had quit for 4 months before the Return Home program. Original character I had various jobs above 40. SAM60, WAR42, few others. Well, came back. Character deleted so I started over. Took my new character to 47RNG and 30NIN, got my old character bacvk when Return home happened.
Key thing though, I actually enjoyed starting over because I had a much stronger grasp of the game mechanics so felt better prepared for what jobs I wanted to do and what directions to go concerning the game.

Re: Just wondering what other people think about starting over
I started over too, sort of. I didn't really see a reason to move servers. So your linkshell disbanded on this server and you don't know anyone? If you go to a new server you still won't know anyone so it's the same situation.
I had a 26/WAR 10/MNK and got burned out on the whole "provoke/attack/provoke/defender" routine. (There's nothing wrong with it, but I should have never been melee in the first place, not my thing.. But I wanted to try something new).
I continued paying for a year without even realizing it had been that long and I had logged in 3 times.. and then one day I was looking for something to play since classes were almost over and I thought "lets play some FFXI as a new class!".
So I logged in as a WHM and within 3 days I had BLM to 15 and less than a week later my WHM is turning 18 tonight. Same character as before though, so I don't lose my Chocobo License, my sub jobs, or my WAR/26 (for subbing later when I do Paladin or Ninja stuff...).
It's the same as starting over as my LS is gone too. I've been making new friends and just joined a new linkshell. But I get to keep the fun things I had from my previous stint as a warrior which allows me to have more fun as a WHM (and afford all those spells!). Plus if the occasional person I used to know sees me, I still have the same name!
So I recommend sticking around with your character you have and just picking a new job. You never know when you might need to sub your old stuff. Besides, selling off lvl 26 WAR stuff gave me a ton of Gil to buy nice WHM stuff ^^

Re: Just wondering what other people think about starting over
I just started all over again on a new server as well. I only had one job to 31 and another to 20 so I did feel it wasn't a big deal. I'm not too sure if it was a wise decision, but it sure was an emotional one. People often say not to take this game too seriously and even though that has a lot of merit and should always be kept in mind, sometimes it really is better to move on.
I think it's what you feel is a better choice for you. Like 1nt3ns1ty said you will have a much stronger grasp of the game early on and might move forwards faster and more efficiently, and by the time you're back to the level you were you might have made some pretty good friends and/or found a great LS.Don't play with fire,

Re: Just wondering what other people think about starting over
I never started over.. and I cant imagine myself doing it.. I mean, Sweetkitty is my character and there is nothing I cant do with her then with a new character. If i want a variation or something ill just go level a new job. Sweetkitty fits me, and I wouldnt like playing as another character. But, I actually did level another character to Ranger40 (Myumyao). But yea.. that was same race, same face just different hair color. :S. Was fun for a little though.http://www.ffxiah.com/player.php?id=953347

The one regret I have in switching servers is losing all my hard earned gil.. Oh the spells I could have bought.... ^.~
But apart from that I'm having a good time again, and that's really what it's all about!Don't play with fire,

Re: Just wondering what other people think about starting over
My first char. Jazaar. 70Rdm, 60brd blm 55whm 50+ Rng War and more jobs I can't remember in the 40s
Second char Jerith 70Rdm 60Brd
Quit for almost a year, both chars were gone.
Restarted again as a Tarutaru Jaza currently 75Rdm 60War 57Blm 55Rng 52Smn and all jobs 36+.
Playing a new char does have it's own characteristic and feeling.... levelling up low level jobs feels a lot different than merrit PT and the like :O I like it personally, but don't know about you.
It can be a pain too because there are so many quests along the levelling way that requires times and helpers. Having good friends and being in a good LS really is what will make your life a lot easier and as a matter of fact, good friends are what keeping me in game and coming back to it. Not having a high level job yourself can be a hassle without good people around you to help you through. There are painters who transform the sun into a yellow spot,
but there are others who with the help of their art and their intelligence
transform a yellow spot into the sun.

Re: Just wondering what other people think about starting over
I just wanted to say really quick...I don't care about my LS disbanding, at least not too much, and I'm positive I'd get a new LS, what I meant was that kinda most of my ties were cut and I didn't like Sylph all that much in the first place, for some reason I think I might like a new server better. But It's helped me to read a lot of your opinions, I know I'm coming back to the game, I've already purchased my content id, and I'm kinda waiting for a WP to Alexander, so I plan on checking that out.
Also I screwed up a lot with my BLM...it was my first time leveling, and I leveled very fast apparently, I got to 20BLM/10WHM in less than 2 weeks...I didn't think it was that fast but people kept telling me that. How I screwed up was that I missed scrolls all over the damn place, I never got Warp till 30, I never had Drain or Aspir and my WHM was pretty gimp cause I hated training it. Every party I joined, when they found out I was missing said scrolls, I got "YOU DON'T HAVE DRAIN(ASPIR/WARP)?!?!" and so it kinda bugged me, lol.
So if I started over, I could maybe try a new race, new city and new jobs, but thanks again for all your opinions they really did help me. Not to decide but just to read and figure out I should do what I feel like doing...I'll join the game, keep my old char intact and just play on Alexander once I get the WP, if I don't like it, I'll prolly go back.
Thanks to Roguewolf for the sig. :D

Re: Just wondering what other people think about starting over
I started over.
This time I started with a good, large, organized LS.
Last time I had a good LS, but one that was small, and not very organized.
Other than the usual LFG woes, pretty much every major timesink/obstacle thrown my way was obliterated with the help of my LS. And now I have a very good (albeit slow) static, so I don't LFG anymore either.
It's incredible what a quality LS can do in this game. Dare I say, it can make or break your gameplay.
A good, large, organized LS is more valuable than a fully upgraded relic weapon. The amount of frustration it reduces solves a lot of headaches.Pounce (RETIRED) Mithra Bastok R.7 Titan server
