  • Thinking of a return, but...

Wow it has been probaly over a year since I last posted on this site, although I do visit from time to time. In any case, a couple of friends of mine have started playing again, which has prompted my interests in making a return. My time away from ffxi has been kind of melancholy. I left FFXI one day when I could not even bring myself to sign in anymore, I just could not take it anymore, I could go into a million reasons why I left but just read some of the threads here and I am sure you will find over half of the reasons I quit. I left FFXI for WoW, had a great time with WoW -- it did a lot of things better than FFXI -- however FFXI never left my thoughts. I feel silly even typing this but its amazing the impact that game had on me, I guess you just bond with something you spent so much time with. I think back upon the good times and it always brings a smile to my face, then I remember why I quit and I don't know if I can do it again. From my signature you should be able to tell I was not a casual gamer, I went hard for a period of 6 months or so. My character is long gone so if I came back it would be from scratch, a proposition that bothers me a lot. All I can think about is, rank 4 & 5 missions, level cap quests, AF quests, RSE quest, exp grind, etc... All of the prementioned things and many others were not part of those fun times, they were long and hard. I was WHM & BRD so I could not do anything without help, thinking back on it I have no idea how I got as far as I did, I was not part of some high level LS, everything was asking others for help and sometimes just dumb luck, someone in Jueno shouting for members for mission x, while I still miss the game a lot, I don't know if I can do it again. I have not kept close tabs on the game since I quit, has anything I mentioned changed? I thought I heard in a patch that gaining exp was faster now? Sutff like that. Anyhow let me know. Thanks.

Depending on lv/setup u can gain enormous amounts of exp per kill nowadays, they have also decreased exp needed per lv after 50 so its not so ridiculous, Goes something like 10k at 50 and rises 1.5k per lv till 75. Theres many more areas to exp now so its not always 5PTs ust crowding a 2PT spot. AF and RSE quests are still the same but Ive never had any dificulty with them before; just need to get a good linkshell and alot of players have higher lv jobs these days so help isnt as hard to find unless everyones jus being ass's the day ou want help. On all my chars ive always had linkshell help for limit itemz so they wernt a pain but I do still see alot of limit 1 shouts in jeuno from same person days on end so if you dont get a good linkshell it can get annoying. U only have to suffer it once tho, kinda. Missions happen all the time on my server at least, alot of rank10s doing other nations ect. Only problem Ive had is getting past ZM4, cant everget ppl to join or they alreadyhave thf when i see shout. All in all I think returnings a good idea.

Oh yea. Economy is out of control on most servers but I can live with that.

hey I read ur post and I'm thinking the same way also. I know I am returning to ffxi soon. (spec. summer 2007) that's mainly because I'll be graduating high school, but for now I need to raise my gpa/summer activities and such for college. I think it was smart to quit (duh lol) and other than that- I really feel empathetic of what you're trying to say. I'd say return if you want to. I know it's going to be hard starting over, but join a ls bond- u'll have so much fun and it'll remind u of the old days. Sometimes, I have these terrible ffxi cravings but I know school is much more important so I quit. I'd say return if you really loved it.

42k to hit 75 from 74. I believe that to get from 49 to 50 is only like 8k and if you get people who know what they are doing thats an easy 2 hrs for 1 lvl.... wish i could get my last 10kfor 75 >.>

It has been a long time, how does that compare to the days before the exp patch?

Um I dont remember exact numbers but the exp needed per lvl went down over 1k in some cases, and more as you lvld up higher.

At 49 the EXP to level is something like 7.9k and at 50 it used to be 11k and jumped about 2k EXP every level. Now that they changed it it's much easier to level. It's a lot more fun as well when things are gelling and everybody's chugging along.

Re: Thinking of a return, but...

I think I know how you guys feel. Sometimes after an extremely long grind you get extremely bored. I took Drg from 1 to 48 in three weeks and I was worn out so I took a long break. Now I've taken Drg to 64, Pld from 25 to 48, and Drk to 25 from 1 and I'm trying not to get to that worn out stage again. Doing missions REALLY help. CoP missions help the most because you get this feeling like you're doing something nobody else has done, which is half true. Not a lot of people do it because it's too tough.
