Re: Thinking of quitting WoW for FFXI? Check here.
If you are the kind a person who only measure reward in terms of items at the end of the experience, FFXI is most definitely NOT for you. I think WoW will fit better, where Guild talk is 99% "my l33t gear pwns u!"
Re: Thinking of quitting WoW for FFXI? Check here.
nice argument, but it's a moot point. The end-all-be-all is that MMORPGs are an investement of time, and at the end, when we all grow up and stop playing these games, and recall our MMORPG days, some ppl will remember fond memories of FFXI, and some ppl will remember doing a quest by themselves, or grouping with a team of other ppl forced into a group cause they were bored.
Why blast the fact that FFXI forces cooperation. You make it sound as if its a good idea to pay monthly to play online by yourself. Granted, while it would be nice to "accomplish" something by yourself, FFXI is simply constructed to be fully player integrated. Player run economies (more like HL Crafter run >.>) and player-run events and rivalries.
So far, WoW player interaction goes as far as guilds. HL LSs in FFXI, with the insane and often comical competition, are the closest thing I say we may have to what WoW offers. I'm not sure the majority of gamers in FFXI enjoy being swarmed to do a "job" while they play a game, sans, it's unlikely they are in l337 LS Mode 24/7. Those that are, well, please keep in mind, that it's only a game to be enjoyed.
And my earlier comment was in regards to the all too common practice of taking a post and putting it on a fansite where ravid fans will proceed to pic it to shreds, purely out of their devotion to a game. I'm sure if someone took a post from another forum where someone blasted FFXI, we'd all have our objective critisisms. It goes hand-in-hand.
I suppose at the beginning, it seemed different, so i'll hold myself accountable for that much. Other than that, my opinion of WoW hasnt changed drastically enough to garner it more than a 2 month break from FFXI.
If we don't like something, collectively, if our hatred for it throbs like an abscess beneath every thread, does that mean that they're doing something right?

Read any forum out there; MMORPG.com, Allakhazam.com, Worldofwarcrafy.com, etc and you'll find that even the most harcore WoW player is questioning his/her choice of game to play. As we've seen there has been a lot that have even asked what FFXI is like, because they want to play it. All of them have mentioned in some way that WoW is becoming boring. The only people who don't think it's boring are the people so deep in the closet it's like somebody locked them in and threw away the key.
If you can't look at the two games and tell which is of more quality, just look at the forums.
you can look at ANY forum and there is always going to be someone bitching about the game they are currently playing. That's the highlight of the internet, bitching about something or another.

Yea, it might always be there, but how many posts here end with "I'm quitting."? As I read through WoW's forums I see a few too many posts like that, and more appear every day. I sorta feel bad for them.
Earlier today I wasted 100k in an effort to get to the ENM60 in the Mine Shaft, and then once I got there I died after the Monlin rolled his friend 3 Jumps, a 2hr, and 2 TP+100s. I think that thing must be broken. The point is I was thinking "Damn this game sucks!" and then I thought "Well it isn't WoW, so I must be wrong."
I'm rambling because I'm tired and my "Japanese for the traveller" class just let out.
Re: Thinking of quitting WoW for FFXI? Check here.
Please elaborate.
Gladly.
If you want to take the dirty route... there is 3 kings and their 3 PHs(two of which are easy).
Behemoth-AoE stun thats lasts a few seconds. Very easy like Jeuno HNMs.
King Behemoth-Above + sick AoE.
Adamantoise-Pretty easy, damanging breath attack.
Aspidtoise(spelling off lol)-Above+high regen when it goes into its shell.
Fafnir-Pretty tough. Towards death becomes highly resistant and spams AoE.
Nidhogg-Surprisingly sometimes easier than Fafnir, but not by much.
There is King Artho, Cassie, and the three Jeuno HNMs(Serket, Roc, and Simurgth). Often LSes rush around and camp these. You get HNM LS drama but nice drops. Abjurations, Ridil from Fafnir, and drops that sell for a lot are the highlight of this. KA and Cassie gets super strong within 15 mins after claim(almost unkillable). PHs and Jeuno HNMs are 30 mins. Kings are 1 hour.
Secondary, there is (sky). You fight 8 'trigger NMs' to pop. Each NM has there own method of being.
Olla-Three forms, one pops after the other. To pop this one you must farm an item off T-VT monsters(good exp and skill up) which can take while and get boring. Unstunable via magic if it uses an abillity, can cast a AgaIII
Mother Globe-pops like any NM(most of these do) has 6 globes with low HP, that can kill stuff via melee pretty quickly. Can resummon those globes. AgaIII
Despot-lotto pop. Spams WS move.
Faust-Spams AoE, must be killed with someone holding it still and killing slowly with range.
BBlade-Must pop via from finding a dagger from a "???" in sky that repops. AoE gets stronger as HP drops, can only be killed by one weapon(that you must steal from it)
Ulli-Most annoying of out of all of them. Lotto from exp monsters every couple hours(sometimes a lot). He spams hate-cleaning WS.
Zip-Pops like any NM. Spams decently powerful AoE and binds. Easier of them all.
Steam Cleaner-In sky, little globe monsters summons pets. In a cetain area, that mob can be Steam Cleaner. Much the same like Olla(without repopping 2 more forms) and can be a drag to pop.
Take two triggers to pop one God.
Genbu-Easiest, a big turtle. Casts high teir water spells. Pretty simple and a lot like Adamantoise. 2hr=invincible.
Seiryu-Dragon that not too hard. Its breath attack can kill a bunch of Tarutaru mages if they are in front + silence, also does aoe paralyze. Casts high teir wind spells. 2hr=Hundred fist, this is usually solved by Invincible.
Suzaku-Big bird that is slightly harder than Seiryu. It casts high teir fire spells. 2hr=Fast Cast(meaning it can wipe an alliance if messy), solved via Stun+Cast Fast(RDM/DRK) or usually shadow bind.
Byakko-The great tank killer, a Tiger. AoE para and can kill a tank easily. It casts high teir banish spells, not too hurtful. 2hr=Perfect dodge.
Those four gives you triggers to pop Kirin.
Kirin-Casts StonegaIV which can wipe a certain amount of group of people or otherwise do a lot of damage to a lot of people. He spams WS and is usually kited because of that and his spells. Casts other high teir stone spells. He has very strong regen. He can summon weaker(lower eva, spell damage, melee damage, and lower acc) verisons of the gods, all armed with 2hrs. His 2hr is Astral Flow, which can be "Ouch, that hurt" to "Omg, everyone just took +900 damage.
All gods drop abjurations(some of which fafnir drops) and so does Kirin. They drop "God armor" and god weapons. The triggers also drop rare weapons that are pretty good.
Third, there is Dynamis. This is very repeative, yet very demanding. It takes a lot of people to get a good LS going. The main rewards are relic armor(AF2) and currency... currency can be sold for a good amount and to uncurse your relic weapon(which takes a lot of time and cost a lot, but the resulting weapon is incredible and will make you instant famous). It cost 1,000,000 gil to get a hourglass to enter a dynamis. You can kill certain mobs in the zone to increase your time.
Dynamis has a group of NMs. After killing them all, you pop the Boss, which is a big thing and you gotta kill it fast. Afterwards(and on the way) you are left to farm monsters for the rare drop rate of AF2 armor.
Dynamis has four beginning areas=Windurst, Jeuno, San d'Oria, and Bastok. These aren't too tough can be easy to master. Windurst, San d'Oria, and Bastok have their own kind of currency which each relic weapon demands at certain levels. Jeuno and the others drop all three.
Then you get access to Beaucedine Glacier, which isnt too hard to clear after practice. However, the better drop rates are from the shadow type monsters(which you completely ignore) and these are tough monsters. This alone is interesting dynamis because you also kill certain NMs that have a chance to drop an Attension which you need to clear one of the levels of unlock Relic weapon. There is five, with 3 2hrs, to match all 15 jobs.
Lastly, there is Xarcabard. This is the toughest one. There is 15 NMs, each drop a matching AF2 piece. When you do so, you pop Dynamis Lord, arguebly the strongest monster in the game. To get to Dynamis Lord, you must run up a few ramps, guarded by Ash Dragon-ish dragons. Lastly, when you reach the castle you see two Dragons Yin and Yang. You must kill them to reach the Dynamis Lord. Once you do, he will resummon the his two pets. They will constantly reraise each other, until you kill them both at once. Dynamis Lord hits very hard and his WSes are earth shattering. His 2hr can kill everyone near it, no questions ask. There is a strat to kill him, which is to kill him fast while RDM/DRKs burn Stun 2hrs and PLDs burn their 2hrs. BLMs do damage, but also kill the dragons at once. Its an intensive battle.
Dynamis also has a short story behind it.
Those three are the basics of end-game content, but by far not the only thing. There is so much more, but narrowminded people can't see past this. While you are doing that you can also do the following.
NMs that only can be killed by a party of 75s. To make money or get a rare/ex item with usefulness, or just an interesting fight. Also, there are pop HNMs that needed more than a party and are also interesting. Bomb Queen for example, a high HP bomb that summons three mobs that explode within 10 seconds, so they mustbe killed fast. Herself cast high teir fire spells.
Rank missions, later on became slightly tougher, but not too hard. All three nations have interesting plot. After Rank 6(which usually everyone has compelted by now) you have 4 more ranks(2 missions each) to deal with. Up to rank 4 gave you a 'preview to things to come'. Good story and some interesting fights climaxed with an interesting BCNMs. You can do all three nation's storyline.
Rise of Zilart missions. You need to do almost all of these to reach (sky) access(where the gods are at). Once you've done the amount most people do, you are to fight the Crystal Warriors. There is two ways to go about this. One is to fight them one-by-one. Second(which you can do after the first) is to fight them all at once in a challenging battle with 18 people. Somepeople do this with 18 BLMs, but the true way to do it is very hard and fun. Afterwards you fight the final boss, who isnt too tough, but it completes a well thought out story. All-in-all, Rise of Zilart was short but nice. 2 BCNMs aimed for level 65s, 1 BCNM aimed for level 70s, 2 or 6 BCNMs aimed for 75. It had nice cutscenes, better than any you will find in any other game. But Rise of Zilart stood no chance to...
Chains of Promathia, a breath-taking storyline so epic compared to RoZ or any MMORPG before FFXI that it really put the FF in FFXI. CoP used capped zones, so people couldnt rush through the weaker BCNMs, like they did with RoZ and yet still be able to do for people with lower levels. None of the battles were easy and they taught players real skill. People who mastered the above are weak compared to the people who surivived this expansion. Usually only high levels can really finish this because of the organization and money needed, so its counts as high-level content.
CoP is broken down into 8 chapters. Chapter 1 unlocked Promy zones(all capped level 30) and had three boss fights(all of them were tougher than usual BCNMs people dealt with). This lead to people to think "THFs DRKs, ect ect, everyone but BLMs SMNs and RNGs cant do CoP" very very untrue. You could farm "anima" to hurt the bosses and make the fight easier. Also farm the item for the map, which you traded to a moving "???" protected by IT mobs. There is also one HNM on each one that sometimes drops a trigger item for a HNM much later on.
Chapter 2 unlocked a new region, Tavnazian Safehold(Lufraise Medows and Misareaux Coast). This gave you a town that grew with quests and storyline as you progressed with storyline. Both zones were armed with NMs. Chapter also unlocked a cap 40 zone name Phmuniua Aqueducts. This contained more of the Fomor type monsters, which aggro rate is decided by the "fomor hate" you have, which can be lowered by killing less of them, and more beastmen. They subligars that look funny and have pretty decent stats. They can be traded for quest to get a level 50 JSE armor which are either decent or very good. Fomor can also drop an item that pops a HNM mob(only traded to a spot when someone has capped Fomor hate[which means they have true-sound aggro]) in a later zone. There are a few NMs there aswell. Lastly Chapter 2 unlocked Rivene Site-#A1. One of the coolest looking zones in the game that has a couple NMs, including the HNM like Dobsonflies that pops in 18s and all aggro at once. The BCNM at the end of the chapter was very hard, putting people to the test.
Re: Thinking of quitting WoW for FFXI? Check here.
*Strech* okay back to CoP. About Rivene Site-#A1. It had Ouryu Cometh BCNM. This was an uncapped BCNM within the zone, cut off. You fight Ouryu(a strong wyrm that is incredibly tough, like the other two), 4 worms(all aggro, casts Stonega3), and 2 elementals with 18 people(and only 18 people). To activate the fight you must get a rare item from two alliance based ENMs and another party based.
Chapter 3. This unlocked The Shrouded Maw BCNM zone, which is only used for 1 ENM. This mission had you face two interesting NMs that took strategy. Also had you face a BCNM against a famous face in FFXIdom, Diabolos. Wither or not you leave the fight to chance or skill was up to the group.
Chapter 4. This started out by unlocking Rivene Site-#B1(cap raised to 50 with this one), much like the one before it. This zone contained a HNM and another NM, both dropping vaulble/rare/ex drops. Also a pop NM that drops a 2-3 hit great katana. The BCNM at the end of this one was very challenging(50 cap Ouryu, weaker though). After clearing it you can activate the quest that allows you to refight Mammets. 1 Mamment for 1 person, 2 for 3 people, 3 for 6 people, 9 for 18 people... pretty tough, they cast -aga spells(manaburn style) when in mage mode and just tough in other modes as well. The goodness of their drops counts on the size of party, but always net you a exp scroll and 3000 gil. Can do once a week. In the chapter you get access to Sacrarium, a zone filled with more fomors. Remember the item I was talking about you got in Aquaducts? Well the NM is one famor of the five races, for your choice and is no push-over. He drops a +stat item for your throwing slot of the matching race that boosts that race's stats(+2 INT for Tarutaru) and also has a chance to drop a Swift Belt(+6% Haste). The mission was not exactly easy, showing that non-BCNM fights are not jokes. After the mission, you unlock a quest that you can solo, for an exp scroll.
Chapter 5-This unlocked the final Promy. Remember the trigger I was talking about? Well here are three of pop HNMs that sometimes drop a good item(rare/ex). Later in the mission you have three paths you must complete, which all are very good, this is one of more amazing parts of CoP. This unlocks a short quest line with a rematch to two Mithra Sin Hunters, and works the same way as the Mammets.
Chapter 6-Unlocked the BCNM area of Sealion's Den. Contains one of most amazing fights in all of FFXI. 45 min fight, on an airship against three stages... 1. 5 Mammets, 2. Omega, 3. Ulitma. 2 and 3 are super tough. This fight alone can take 5-10 tries with the best set up, this is called skill.
Chapter 7-One more BCNM against a surprise opponent, if he SCs its AoE and it means you lose. Also at his side are three helpers, that you cant hurt.
Chapter 8-Final one... Unlocked the Al'Teiru area and through the mission unlocks two dungeons. One tough BCNM followed by the final BCNM with a climatic boss with two forms. Al'Teiru and its two dungeons are called (sea) and havn't been fully discovered... what we know: drops items you trade to NPC to get rare/ex items, such as a Belt that make your elemental bonus from day/weather, double. Also there is 7 NMs called Jailers. These drop a (kickass) torque that gives you +7 skill of two weapon skills and +7 Stat(ie:+7 Hand to Hand Skill with +7 MND, in one item). They also drop weapon that hit 2-3 using ammo, that you get, in the same way as the other items. Also NMs(drop triggers) drop item traded in for capes very good for mages. There is three teirs of Jailers: (all of them based on opposites of sins)
1st teir(pop in different ways). 2nd teir popped by rare drop 1st teir jailer + NM(also pops strangly), Teir 3, Jailer of Love, no one has popepd it yet, because of the tough drop rates. At the end of it all, there is a monster called Absolute Virtue that no one has popped yet.
After completeing CoP you will be spending time, doing sea or repeating the missions(they are pretty fun) or fighting HNMs you gained access to.
Wyrms
These are very tough HNMs, toughest in the game. They(3 of them) pop once every 3 days I believe(not too sure, maybe be a little longer). They usually are surrounded by VT-IT monsters. One of the toughest challenges in the game is to defeat Vrtra, one of the Wyrms, because he summons monsters + there are many around. Not exactly a Wyrm, just as tough, is King Vinegarroon. He is a scorp that does +2200 dmg WSes, nonstop spam of powerful poison AoE, simply stunning HP regen, and zone-wide alliance draw-in. He repops every three days, only on double earth weather.
ENMs, or Empty Notorious Monsters. Once a week, for each BCNM zone, you can do one fight. Mine Shaft is the only expection because it has two keyitems for different battles(so twice a week there). There is a lot of ENMs, including two alliance based ones and seven otherwise uncapped. There is also a lot of them for low levels(which drops are good enough for high levels to strip down to level 30/40/50/60 armor and take them out). They al l award exp, 2000 to 4000 depending on which and gil. You can do 11 ENMs a week(only 3 being uncapped), for serious gil and at least 25K exp(or merit points).
Merit points are incredible. There is a lot of groups in where you can put your points into. Some boost job ability(Jump recast lower, Thunder magic dmg+, ect), stats(STR, INT, ect), HP/MP, pure combat/magic skill, and various of things(Enimity+/-, Spell casting interuption rate, ect). Merits can be build for exp partys(which at that level go by fast and nice) or during events(sky, ENMs, and a lot in sea).
Quests... they are simply the greatest thing in the game. Some of them are just as good as missions. Now that you are 75 you can solo most of them for great titles/cutscenes. Some you can't, and you will have made enough friends to do them together. Very often you might want to do exp scroll quests like Eco-Warrior, Escort, and the one unlocked in Sacrarium.
Don't forget every so often SE releases interesting and fun(if you can get off your cranky-jp hating-non stop HNM camping ass to actually enjoy stuff) events. Also every month they release a good read, the Vanadiel Tribune which can actually be funny(SHOCKED) and interesting.
There is more, but I think I typed my fair share... SE is always releasing more content(for all levels), there is four dynamis and a zone called Lower Promy in the files along with another BCNM zone. Outside this high-level content, as I mentioned in quests... just because you are level 75, doesnt mean you cant have like a 50 would. Collecting furniture, crafting, questing, so mannny things. Call them time burns, but if you are wiping sweat from your forehead with a smile, not having everything handed to you, falling asleep... you are playing a game.
I didn't mention all the memories you will build becoming level 75. People love FFXI. They don't love WoW, they like it. In FFXI there is a community, so even when you are doing nothing, there is people you can talk to in your town(server).
Re: Thinking of quitting WoW for FFXI? Check here.
For how many of you though, is FFXI your first MMORPG? The thing is, people throw around "memories" and "experiences" etc. the truth is, your first MMORPG will always be your most memorable one, no matter what. It will also shape what you believe a MMORPG should be like. For me that MMORPG was Ragnarok Online
Re: Thinking of quitting WoW for FFXI? Check here.
BRP, that was the best sum up of all endgame stuff I think I've ever seen. I knew about most of that, yet it still got me even more excited for this game I've been playing for over a year and a half. Thanks
I RNG 75 I WAR 37 I NIN 38 I SAM 50 I Woodworking 92+2
Re: Thinking of quitting WoW for FFXI? Check here.
What is meant as memories is all the 'tests' you take in FFXI. At level 20-30, most people usually do one Eco-Warrior. Then there is obtained Rank 3. Then doing your first BCNM(usually 40). Then doing G1. Then getting your AF. Then defeating Maat(G5). That kind of thing. Also the fact FFXI has such a great community, there is plenty of memories, more so than other games.

oh yah, but don't forget I am just a "Brain of Spam" to these moderators. You know just a pointless spammer who doesn't know a damn thing and never posts good.
