I'm sure it's been said before but the main difference I have noticed between FFXI and WoW, is the time that it takes to hit the max level. In FFXI it took something like 60 days /played, in WoW it took about 6 days /played. So you can clearly see the difference in just the pace of the games, if you want a fast paced game with quick rewards and results choose WoW, if you want a game that actually has a story and you have to work for your results and they give you a sence of acomplishment play FFXI.

I recently quit WoW(last night) after my Molten Core run with my guild, it's just got to the point where it's just so boring and a waste of time to do the end game content on WoW, yeah there is BWL I have done it, yeah in the future they will release a new expansion(emphesis on future) and I just don't see WoW going anywhere, so I have made the decision to come back to FFXI and leave WoW behind in the like the piece of junk it is.

You can hit max lv in FFXI in alot less than 60days played.

Level cap doesn't mean anything at FFXI. It just increases the content, which you already have a lot of. People can stay level 60 for a long time and have fun.

-.- does it usually last that long / is it exclusive to that time? I know on WoW that is the ONLY time you can do anything interesting.

Probably, but if it is your first character and it takes a while to get all of the genkai quests done, leveling sub jobs and whatnot it takes alot longer than taking a 2nd job to 75.

Uh, your problem is that you can't stay up? Well you can by just fine if you log out at around 10pmEST.

I haven't played FFXI much only have a 13 red mage now, and the server is down so i was bored and read the forums.

I recently bought FFXI because WoW has basically nothing to do once you reach max level. I play PvP because the PvE in WoW is basically too boring. The thing is now WoW PvP is based 100% on gear and all guild raids in Arathi basin. Only 3 classes have been updated - warlock, warrior, and hunter. The rest of the classes are bland and plain boring and are too overpowered to hell in PvP (mage/rogue) So unless you rolled one of the 5 classes above you will find your class to be not up to par in PvP.

I leveled a undead priest to 60, and a human paladin to 53. Being a healing type player I went holy for both of these classes. I noticed White mage in FFXI has nice debuffing spells like blind and paralyze. These would be great for priest and paladin because you can actually survive a rogue critting for 2000 twice or aim shooted for 3000+ damage. At end game there is NOTHING beside pvp and if you dont raid 24/7 for epic gear you can't pvp effectively. Every MOB you attack in WoW is basically a < 30 sec fight and meaningless. in FFXI the fights actually make me feel like "oh crap I might die" but in WoW you are saying "oh , as long as its 2 lvls in my range I will kill it 100% chance."

Also a HUGE observation is the community, in WoW you could run into 10 priests and none would bother to revive you or heal you if you're in trouble. In FFXI I get random saves all the time, and once I went AFK and died and came back later and 5 different people messaged me for a rez, and even some japanese messaged me I couldnt read that though, something like "たていす間 <Raise> ?" I have no idea what those symbols meant. It was cool to actually so players who cared though. It's also cool to be able to play with Japanese, I am reading on their culture and hopefully can learn a few words and prove Im not just another dumb "NA". I installed a language bar program but am so confused how to use it with so many text they have like kanji, hiragana, and katakana. They must have 1000s of keys LOL. It would be so awesome to meet a Japanese person who knew English and could teach me some words hehe.

I would say at this point the pros and cons of the games are...so far

                            FFXI

                            Pros

                            -Friendly players
-Extensive job system to cater to any type of player
-Trade skills that actually require skill to do
-Team attacks that allow a group to really work together
-Involving storyline that makes the game feel alive
-Great music, sound, and spell effects

                            Cons

-The camera is terrible, moves very slow and seems to have a rebellious mind of its own
-Running from battle is impossible since every monster seems to have a ranged attack to chase you down and kill you
-Starting off as a newbie is tough, and finding friends is hard with no other newbies around
                            -The towns are too large
-Item micromanagement tends to get tedious having to manually stack every item you pick up

                            -----------------------

                            WoW

                            Pros

-Very easy to reach the max Level (60) due to rested exp and quests that give large exp rewards.
-You can play with just the mouse
-Rested exp allows for massive bonus in exp per kill
                            -Easy to level trade skills
-Every class has a "I win" button that allows to you play with only using one or two skills
-Be able to see warcraft in full 3D

                            Cons

-Unbalanced PvP system, cloth users suffer the most, usually dying in 1 or 2 hits
-No utility spells that debuff the target(ex. attack speed slow, blind, paralyze) some minor debuffs exist but they are VERY unnoticable like warrior 10% attack speed slow but rage is better used to spam their "I win" skill called Mortal strike.
-Nothing to do after you reach 60 to build your character, besides raid instances for gear
-Unfinished game, Blizzard mentions all these "new features" coming, which basically means we are playing an unfinished game while they plunder our credit cards to pay for finishing an undeveloped game, yay
-Immature players that do not know how to play their class
-Finding an group is hard because most people want to solo and most MOBS can be killed alone in a non instance area.
-Trade skills don't offer many powerful rewards

Basically WoW is developed around the word "EASY" and invites everyone that is looking for instant gratification for no challenge. I enjoy FFXI's challenge factor and learning curve, I can't wait to figure out how to do a weapon skill chain with a full group and take down a powerful monster.

Hopefully FFXI replaces WoW for me, I haven't canceled my account yet. What pissed me off the most about FFXI is that it didnt give me my free month, and the Playonline associate was extremely unhelpful simply stating "You will not receive your free month, can I help you with anything else?" he offered no reason WHY, after I just spend $40 for the game and 2 expansion packs. Other then that FFXi has been a good experience.

Hint : Don't play WoW until it is finished, and by then WoW 2 will be out

                              This is a con?

Some of your con's and pro's are pretty uh.. dumb. "Seeing Warcraft in 3d" isn't a good thing and isn't a bad thing... thats like saying "Sky is blue", which is just awesome I'm sure, but its pretty obvious. Play with mouse is barely a good reason, and you didn't even list FFXI can be played with a controller. I don't know what is the deal with your camera, but i've never seen for myself a 'slow' view with a 'mind of its own'. The only time I could imagine this happening is when you park yourself against a solid wall. You might want to check your computer if it can run FFXI correctly. A person with level 13 RDM shouldn't be listing the pro's and con's of FFXI.

I left FFXI for WoW..and what a horrible mistake that was. I got to level 60 and never left Ironforge after. (Ironforge = main city, for those that haven't played.) Such a huge let down...

But, now I'm back to the goodness that is FFXI~
