  • Re: Thinking of quitting WoW for FFXI? Check here.

I just started back on FFXI yesterday. I play both GW and FFXI now; I played WoW for awhile but it left me weirdly unfulfilled...
I also did City of Heros for awhile, and Eve Online (Which I really liked.)
    Now I'm back :-D
I'll never give up my guild wars though; I love that game. It is a different experiance then FFXI; I'm finding I'm enjoying them both equally.

I played GW during the beta weekends, it was pretty fun. I havn't shelled out the money yet to purchase it, but the no monthly fee stuff wouldn't make it any harder. The limited equipment and max level of 20(I think) is sort of a turn off though.

GW went all out for Halloween with some cool stuff. I'm looking forward to Christmas in FFXI. The last time around Square had some fun things going for Christmas like trees, hats etc. If I remember right they also had some teleport quests or something like that. You could travel to Sandy, Windy, and Bastok. That was several years ago.

Find it funny that this started as a pro and con list, and it immediately turned into a backtalk thread.

Well I haven't played WoW so I don't know how long it is, but I do know that within a year of playing the game you could easily spend weeks of your life (in game hrs counted) just waiting for parties.

WoW seems alot like Guild Wars, strong focus on PvP. FFXI is strong focus on PvE. I think if you compared each games obvious strong points you would realize your realy comparing 2 very different games. About the only thing they seem to have in common is that they are both MMOs in the most natural meaning of the genre.

I think the Fanbase behind FFXI draws alot more artistic and thoughtful players, PPL who play WC3 and SC are all about instance battles and a quick opportunity to gloat, wile FF players are typically drawn by the environment and background behind the FF series.

To have a pro and con list about FF among a bunch of FF players is completely subjective. This entire thread is about how each player feels about each game.

From what I've been told, WoW is hands down easier to progress through, you would have to have an army of connections and experience to match progression in FFXI. FFXI has a better PvE environment, WoW has better solo.

It realy depends on what kind of gameplay you realy like. I think the most defining con about FFXI is that it has almost completely party based gameplay, and there are dozens of classes that have to fight for an opportunity to participate. How long the game is realy isn't a bad thing, I don't care if the game goes on into eternity as long as I can enjoy every second of it. The real question is, which one is more fun to play, for you, and which one can you have fun with more often.

I played Guild Wars, and it was real fun to play, constant progression, easy party builds, enough openings in a party for everyone to participate effectively, and the game was so involving that I never made any lasting friends (save for some unscrupilous women).

I came back to FFXI for the ppl, suprisingly still playing and still knew me after I was gone 6 months.
Learning > Intelligence > Experience. Weak minds are subject to experience before realization. Inteligent minds understand quickly with minimal experience. Learned minds excersise knowledge gained from study, and do not require experience to reach realization. Which is your claim?

                Exactly why WoW isn't fun.

Enjoy zerging instances, and farming reputation for amor you're just going to do what with? Zerg more instances? When I play FFXI I know I can participate in Dynamis, camp HNMs from time to time, complete missions, level other jobs, and just help other people when they need it. FFXI has a much larger end game than WoW, yet the other parts of the game are also fun.

                        • Re: Thinking of quitting WoW for FFXI? Check here.

I have played both FFXI and WoW extensively: a yearish on FFXI and up to level 55, and much more experience on WoW. I played a thief to 30 and then become a black mage.

On WoW, I was in the second best Alliance endgame guild on my server, and we progressed as far as Nefarion while I was a part of the guild, so I know a lot about endgame here. I played a rogue.

I assume everyone else has already covered most of the pros/cons about the leveling and things, so I'll give a perspective on WoW endgame. The endgame in WoW is pretty achievable since it's so easy to get to 60 (max level) and new endgame guilds are always forming.

Endgame in WoW gets extremely, extremely boring beyond belief, and requires a lot of dedicated time. One thing I liked about WoW at first was that you could actually accomplish something in fifteen minutes, unlike FFXI where (I found) I usually needed three hours to even bother looking for a party at my level. That changs on WoW once you get into endgame. I was in a Singaporean guild, so keep in mind my times are a little screwy, but when I played over the summer I'd go 27 hours without sleep for the sake of my guild, becauuuuse:

2:30 am(be on to be grouped)
                          3 am(raid starts)
3:30 am(raid REALLY starts when all the late people get here)
                          6:30 am(raid ends)

Then I'd have to go to work, get back late and not have time to sleep befoooore:

                          the nighttime raid!
                          9:30pm(be on to be grouped)
                          10:30pm(raid REALLY starts)
                          5:30am(raid ends)

That was the time it took my guild to clear all of Molten Core (the first end game raid experience) essentially, although since getting better it does take less time. This is the kind of schedule any good, competitive endgame guild will have, with raiding practice scheduled every day of the week. And for all this work, probably 90% of that time is spent getting to the bosses. You have to clear trash mobs that can be bosses in and of themselves, and there are SO MANY of them, and before every one you have to be fully rested, etc. They only very rarely drop some class loot. Since it's so rare, and since it's also kind of necessary, my guild always made a point to kill every single trash mob, even if we could skip one or two. Once again, this is what a good, competitive endgame guild does.

Even once we moved onto the second endgame raid experience, Blackwing Lair, we still kept going to Molten Core, because we still needed to equip old and new players in the guild. It never ends. The only thing that kept me sane was my wonderful guildmates and our conversation on TeamSpeak.

To get PvP rewards equivalent to endgame PvE rewards, you basically need to be killing Horde (or Alliance) 24/7. Anyway, whew! I hope that helps someone. :D

FFXI = what 7 months or more to 75 30% of which is spent LFG? Oh yes that is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Much fun.

You hardcore ffxi lovers will simply never get it, because you have to justify all the time you have wasted. It's ok, it really is, BTW WoW servers are exploding with new toons, howis FFXI doing?

Like having more players make a game. WoW = McDonalds. FFXI = Sushi Bar. Who gives a crap how many want a white trash burger, Dragon Rolls for me. You can have all the 12 year olds and chinese, we won't cry.

And, if you spent 30% of your time seeking for party, then you wasted 30% of your time. You can put seek up and do a bunch of things. A bunch of things WoW doesn't have.

PS: Haha... hmm, a BRD complaining about seeking for party? I bet you rushed to 75 thanks to BRD getting partys so easily, and saying getting AF was a pain. Tsk tsk, talking with so much bullshit.

yet again, this topic is going in circles.

look people, some will like WoW for X reasons, some will like FFXI for Y reasons. arguing X is better than Y is pointless.

                                thread closed.
