Man, I love it when people ask a dumb question and then instead of realizing that they asked a dumb question they get all dickish in response to the replies they get.

I didn't get a buddy key with my steam purchase. If you can find it in the store, maybe you'll find one in there. Maybe not. I don't know. However, Steam is indeed just a gateway. I don't even access steam any more to play FFXI, because why would I open two programs when I can open one? I'm sure there's probably a way to access your store bought copy of FFXI via steam, but I can't think of any reason why you'd want to.

I bought my version through Amazon because I was hearing all the problems with the guys who purchased from steam. My version I purchased through ammazon came with a buddy key. I havn't had any problems with the download or the install so I am happy.
