  • Improving FPS

Let me start by saying my computer is old. It's from 2007 running Vista 32bit. I have an Nvidia GeForce 8400GS graphics card. My system has double what the requirements ask for to run it(Recommended, not minimum). I can move around outside cities with about 27-29 FPS, but in the cities I get random drops in certain areas. Areas that make no sense, like the fountain area in Windurst. And Port Sandy.

I have my settings all on low and mip mapping on. I run Game Booster and only have Firefox open(Tried without it open and it didnt change much.)

Ive been reading posts from around 2007-2009 about a graphics driver for GeForce 6, 7, and 8 Series cards and im wondering if I should downgrade to it and if it might have any negative effects on my computer.

    Can anyone help?

    Re: Improving FPS

27-29 FPS is pretty much as good as it gets because the game is throttled at a maximum of 30 FPS anyway. Regarding those dips in certain areas, they're also fairly common as well. Your system specs are more than fine for running the game.

You have a point with the driver downgrade though, ever since I switched from Nvidia to ATI my FPS dropped a chunk and reverting the drivers fixed some of the issue but I was still getting awful hitching in areas like WG with a card that should have been guaranteeing 30 FPS wherever I went.

I guess I may as well deal with it then I guess? I know for a fact the drivers probably wont fix my FPS drops at all so there no point downgrading to the drivers to fix minimal drops outside towns.

Worst thing that happens is when something like a Rarab does it's dust storm type move my FPS drops to 17 for a second or two. But thats hardly something to freak out about. All other spell effects are piddly really.
