  • Aspect Ratio help

I just started playing FFXI (actually...I haven't really started yet since I'm having technical issues) and I need some help!

I used Regedit to change the game's resolution to 1920x1200, but the in-game ratio is 4:3 so everything is stretched. I know there is an aspect ratio control under Misc 2, but I am unable to select or change it.

Any ideas? I've tried in both full screen and windowed mode, and I'm not using Windower or anything like that.

    TIA!

I'm not aware of any option other than the slider bar under Misc 2. You'll need to use your left and right arrows to change aspect ratio.

Well, first problem I see is the resolution. When changing the background resolution you make both values the same. And the aspect ratio button should always be selectable. I haven't heard of anything that disabled it.

Is that the same as FFXIconfig tool? Play with that and then the Misc2. It's what I did. Unless your using another platform, then just ignore what i said.

          Hey,

First off, the "background" you changed with regedit sounds like the "mod" for super-sampling, not the actual game resolution. My advice is to run the ffxi config tool. set your resolution in there. As far as the regedit thing. if your still up for making regedit mods you would probally be best off setting it to 2048x2048 (if your computer can handle it) I would advise that you make the regedit change last as if you select the wrong box in the config tool it will reset that setting.

All in all if you cant get any of that working.... fire up the ffxi config tool and change ALL (you can make them whatever you want.. just change them to something then change them back) once all this is done you should be able to get into the misc2 slider to adjust the ratio.. 1920x1280 = 16:10 I believe.

          Hope that helps..

you don't have to make both the same, I run in 1440x900 (1920x1200) and it is not stretched or distorted in anyway, and infact looks very good. putting it at 2048x2048 is fine as well, but not needed.

I think I accidentally set it like that once upon a time and it stretched names and icons. If it works for you though, I can't argue

                Re: Aspect Ratio help

When I edited my registry to improve the game's graphics I set both resolution entries to match my monitor's native resolution. Setting both values to be the same (e.g. 2048x2048) made the game noticeably less crisp because the displayed image has to be resized to fit my 1680x1050 screen.

To touch on the original post, I'm able to access my aspect ratio controls in-game despite my registry edits. Perhaps something else is going on? We're assuming you know you have to hit enter first after you select the aspect ratio bar in order to adjust its settings, but you did say you were new to the game so I'm mentioning it just to be safe.
