  • Notebook PCs & FFXI

For those of you that use notebook PCs (laptops) with FFXI, what graphics chipsets are compatible with FFXI? Everyone seems to have Intel chipsets--nVidia chipsets are exceedingly hard to find (especially in the configurations I'm looking for), and I don't think I've seen any ATIs either.

So, if you have any experience with notebook PCs and FFXI please let me know!

PS: I'm looking for an FFXI compatible 8.9 or 9.0 (MINI). I could go 10" but I'm really looking at very small notebooks.

Intel 950 or higher should work fine.
I use a Mac because I'm just better than you are.

Dell offers ATIs as an option on some of their notebook lines (e.g. Inspiron); I ordered mine with a Radeon Mobility X1400 to make sure I'd have good performance with FFXI.

I'm sure that ATIs are not offered on the Dell minis though. They have very limited options.

I know this is a very old thread but i thought i'd mention, these days ATI and NVIDIA GPUs are quite widely available, although sometimes very costly. If you dont mind paying up to £1000, the manufaturer of my Laptop is excellent, the company is called "ROCK", they make primarily gaming laptops and i would highly recommend them.

I bought a 17" Toshiba Satellite L355D-S7901 with an AGP in it like 2 months ago.

This thread was created with the intention of looking at very small (MINI) notebook PCs and FFXI while I was looking at the cool little minis online. After I went to the store to actually handle the devices before I bought them, I decided that the tiny little notebooks were a little cramped for my style and got a 17" with a numeric keypad (the numeric keypad is actually what sold me on this particular laptop which I really like.

I was still contemplating purchasing a mini as well later on since I like the size, so if you have a recommendation for a mini with some more game-friendly specs (I know the Dell Mini's run WoW, and according to Mhurron, they should also run FFXI), please post link.
