  • PC Gamepad issue.

Well recently I decided to return to FFXI after a short leave, I sat through the updates and everything, and when I finally logged in I noticed my controller wasn't working with it. So I log out, check the config...and everything is correct, in fact its exactly how I left it. But when Testing the Game pad in the config, nothing happened, no responce, no nothing.

So I decide to restart...nope, Reinstall the game entierly...nope, Update my drivers...nope, try other controllers...same problem. All of these controllers work with eveything else except FFXI.

I do run Vista, but Ive done that with no problem in the past, and the controller is a Logitech Dual Action, which also has never givin me problems with FFXI.

Can anybody help with this? I cant find any common problems on the interwebs, and I cant get through to there actuall support team to help.

Oh and the controllers work fine with PoL, just not FFXI. Ugh...

The PC adapter that connects your controller to it? I've had a short in mine where I've had sporadic control in game. I always keep a spare.

Well Like I said, its not the controller that wont respond. Its FFXI, I'm just not sure what else to try.

Ok, the controller connects to an adapter that "speaks" to the PC, thats what I'm talking about. Did you try a new adapter? Might look like this:

He never said he was using a PS2 controller with an adapter.

          Logitech Dual Action
This is a PC Gamepad. No adapters.

I've had this problem before with the gamepad I use (Cordless Rumblepad 2) and the only fix I found was disabling/enabling the pad a few times until the FFXI gamepad config recognized it. It's the same when I connect a PS3 controller to the PC, FFXI wont recognize it unless I disconnect and reconnect it a few times.

Oh, Ill give that a whirl and report my findings. Haha.

EDIT: That doesn't seem to be helping really, any specifics?

There is still something that you plug into the PC that connects the controller to it. The controller can not magically communicate with the PC. I use a wired PS2 controller so thats similar to an adapter that I use. Now my son uses a wireless PC controller and there is a USB fob that he plugs into the computer. We've both had issues with the connecters to the PC where there is a short or something and we get sporadic connection when in game or sometimes just not at all. (i.e. works with POL but doesn't once we are in game) Thats why his issue sounded similar to what we've been through.

                Re: PC Gamepad issue.

My girlfriend is having the same problem as RogueGerudo, except she is using a Saitek Cyborg PC controller. The controller works fine with everything (including POL), but it won't work once FFXI starts up, nor will it work in FFXI Config's Gamepad Settings. Disconnecting and reconnecting the controller multiple times has not shown any results. I use the same controller on my PC, and it works fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Wow, it's been a while since I've seen a post in this thread. I did eventually get the problem fixed and I would love to give you some great and helpful advise...but the only solution I found to this problem was to re-install Windows.
