  • Bit of a snag.

Apparently my delima goes something like this, whenever I am able to log into FFXI it takes a while, and if I'm online the bar is usually at 100%, but as of a few moments ago I have been timing out with the server and not sure as to why it's happening.

For the most part I've been playing since around 11:30 AM or something, it's around 3:38 so about 4 hours of leveling in the dunes and going in and out of selbina. For some reason though I went into selbina just a few moments ago and my connection started dropping like a rock and things just went haywire...

The past few minutes I've been trying to get on and so far if I log into FFXI from selbina my connection starts to dip, goes back up then dips once again. Yet if I'm in the dunes it seemed fine, but I didn't stay long enough to completely see. I did a ping check and so far it went like this:

Pinging 61.195.48.209 with 32 Bytes of Data
    Request Timed out.
    Request Timed out.
    Request Timed out.
    Request Timed out.

    Ping statistics for 61.195.48.209:
    Packets: sent=4, Recieved =0, packets lost= 4 (100% Loss)

I also did a speed check through my cable modem and got this:
Download Speed: 11749 kbps (1468.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 980 kbps (122.5 KB/sec transfer rate)

So at this point I'm not 100% sure as to what's going on, actually I'm not even 50% sure for that matter. I'm thinking I should mess with the router and release the DHCP and then renew it? Or is something else up? (tried checking to see if something was going on with the servers also =/)

    [Edit]
I have just found out that apparently I can't go into Selbina :/ I work fine in the dunes for now (Not sure about any other location, but so far the main problem seems to be Selbina)

This used to happen to me every now and then and I never found out why it did it. It's very frustrating, especially waiting so long for the log in bar to fill up just to be told it's failed. I found that closing pol and trying a few minutes later normally solved it/if you use wireless/router unplug it all from the socket/ re-do it/ check cables etc etc.

Thank you, I'll give that wait a try ( I played for 4 hours got a few levels so a wait till tomorrow works fine.)

Didn't know whether it dealt with the .dat files, servers, connection, or anything of the sort.

Check for worms on any computer on your network. Back when I lived w/ my dad and we shared a connection, mine was doing that and I couldn't figure out why, but found out my dad had a worm on his computer. Once we had a virus scanner clear it out, never had the problem again.

Thank you, though apparently all I had to do was wait a few hours :/ - Never encountered this type of problem, but a virus scan on my father's computer couldn't hurt either. So I'll do that just to make sure as well. Though did SE officially say anything about this type of problem?
