  • GeForce 8800 GT Assistance, please?

    Hello!

I just got FFXI, and I'm having significant problems. The game is choppy. When I run the game, the video stops every second for about a tenth of a second. I IMed with tech support, and the best they could do was "update your driver." I did update my driver, to version 175.19. He then told me "we tested it on 175.16." Fair, but a little late for me to do anything about that.

System: Quad Processor 2.33 mHz, 4GB RAM

NVidia GeForce 8800GT video card. I've tried tweaking its settings, as well as just about every viable combination I could think of in the FFXI config app. All the same (though tweaking card did produce slightly better or worse images here and there).

I just want the chop to stop!

One other point of interest--I get the problems in the PlayOnline Viewer, when you get to the screen where you click PLAY to enter (before selecting a character). The message in the middle scrolls choppy. Interestingly enough, the message at the very bottom (its text escapes me right now) scrolls fine.

    any assistance GREATLY appreciated!!

Try the 175.70s if you can. They work decently with my 8700M GT.

      thanks for the suggestion.

I tried the driver that Tech Support suggested, but I have the same result. This is making me wonder if there's another problem or issue involved.

Any further suggestions on performance, etc., appreciated.

I may have forgotten to mention, I am on Vista. I've tried compat modes, with no luck.

I have the same exact problem with the same exact setup... I've found disabling the QoS in the network helped while standing still / fighting in groups. However, when I go to run around, the game becomes choppy... It's not really all that annoying to me, but it would be nice if it ran like it should -- considering I have a decent setup.

Anyone else have any words of advice?

Edit: I think it may be because of my internet connection. If the QoS worked some, then it must be. I'll have to try it out during the weekdays, as everyone is busy "harloting" up the dorm bandwidth with torrents during the weekend... Still, more advice would be appreciated!

I have a Leadtech 8800GT, I use the drivers that came on the disk (winfast drivers) and have no problems, the quality is superb and all setting turned on full as I have a Q6600 quad core system. Try installing the drivers off the disk and see if that makes a difference. I have no problems with other games I play using the disk drivers.

Edit:- I am on XP though, wouldn't touch vista with a barge pole.

Yes. Do you have the Windows media thing with the remote? Do you also have a cell phone plugged into your computer or anything along the lines of that? Go into your device manager and disable/uninstall Human Interface Devices (HID) and check under universal serial bus controllers for anything that says infrared receiver.

That fixed it for me. Also you need to rollback to SPECIFIC ffxi drivers for geforce FINAL FANTASY XI Official Web Site

I had to figure all this crap out on my own as not many people have the problem. Its a PITA though.. thats for sure. HTH
