I just got a Mac a couple days ago.
I installed a program called "VMware Fusion" onto it. Basically what it allows you to do is, while using Mac OS X, to open the program and boot up Vista in a new window. I transported all of my things from my old computer [HP DV2000, running Windows Vista] to the new version of Vista on my Mac. When I use POL, the music is choppy, the graphics are terrible, and don't get me started about FFXI. Half of my character just doesn't even show up... It's disastrous! O_O
I'm thinking of just running Vista in Boot Camp. It's going to take a while to install everything AGAIN, but it'll be worth it... =_= Eventually...
Just to let you all know, I guess, DON'T RUN FFXI IN VMWARE FUSION.
Heads up!

You can save yourself a little time with FFXI.
Copy off your current FFXI install directory to a back up location. When you re-install FFXI, log in, let POL update itself, then log back out (without going through the game update).
Then copy your backup FFXI directory to where you installed your new version, and voilàfully updated FFXI ready to go.
Thanks for the help.
I got it up and running in Windows Vista using Bootcamp.
But of course, problem after problem occurs... Now it's really glitchy!
All the characters [and NPCs, and monsters] look bizarre and sort of... shiny. Plus, Quadavs are... PURPLE! Oy. Other than that, the only other thing is that all the menus and things are very small, but that isn't much of a problem.
Any suggestions as to what this might be?
My character, looking rather shiny.
...Purple Quadav?

While that does explain your problem with Fusion, it doesn't help with your Vista problems. Fusion would most likely work much better with FFXI on an iMac, MacBook Pro or a Mac Pro.
Apple Menu > About this Mac > More Info
Now then, what MacBook, Processor, how much RAM and what Graphics chip?
