Re: Xbox 360 Controller on PC FFXI - HOWTO

So my understanding.... I can't use XBCD on Vista ( I have 32bit Vista Business)
Exactly how do you use Xpadder? I downloaded it. I have the buttons recognize on the interface but how do I apply those buttons to FFXI?

      Previous tries:
Xpadder - having some problems with arrow keys mappings stepping on camera movements, macro pallets were slow
XBCD - no good for wireless

How I got it to work:
      1) I first installed the Microsoft XBox 360 Accessories Software from here:
      - Download Gaming Software
      - Note: This is not really necessary but allows your computer to recognize accessory add ons like play and charge kit.

      2) Then I downloaded the "English version of XBOX360 wireless controller" driver from here:
      - x360wc.tripod.com/x360wc.en/index.html

      3) Then to install go to device manager:
      - Note: Following instructions are assuming you installed accessory pack; if not, steps will be similar but not same.
      - There should be a section called "XBox 360 Peripherals"
      - There should only be one device listed below if you don't have anything plugged in besides wireless receiver and controller on (I believe it is something like XBox 360 Wireless Controller or Receiver).
      - Select this and choose to update the driver.
      - Select the driver from the location you installed it at.
      - Note: If this is not detailed enough, check out the readme that resides in the directory the driver is in.

      4) Configure the controller:
      - Control Panel -> Game Controllers -> Select Controller -> Go into Properties
      - Play around in the Settings Profile to test it (see that triggers are mapped to buttons and force feedback works)
      - Go to the Directional Pad tab and change the Pad function to Slider 1 / Slider 2 (this solves d pad config problems in the ffxi config)
      - Go to the Buttons tab and change the ring of light setting to what ever you want (something to indicate that the controller is on). I chose "Flash then stay lit 1." This will not tell you battery power of controller, but you can always plug in your play and charge kit and continue to play if you suspect the battery is low ^^
      - Adjust the force feedback if you'd like. Note the ffxi config will probably give you a really weak feedback vibration test but it worked great in game for me fighting buggards, etc.

      5) Go to FFXI config tool.
      - Map all your buttons.
      - I mapped everything the same as the XBOX 360 control scheme since that's what I usually play on.

      6) Everything should work.
      - This is not a perfect step-by-step work for all, but if you play around with it you can get it to work with these drivers. If you follow these steps, and you are using Windows XP you shouldn't have any problems.

Good Luck! Hope this solves all your problems, and if you know who wrote those drivers, tell her/him I said thanks!!
This has always been able to get me to the right direction; however, I will help you guys out. When he said:

      He wasn't kiddin'.

I have performed the following step-by-step on about 6 x64 PCs for Windows XP, Vista, and even Se7eN on my own system. Some of this stuff seems ritualistic, I know. Those of us who have lost countless hours know this is no small feat to achieve short of sacrificing a few cattle after bathing them in cat blood. Have you ever tried to bathe something in cat blood? Those kitties fight!

How I got it to work:
      1) I downloaded the driver I needed from the website CrashenX did.
      - www katch.ne.jp/~morii/index.html

I have linked the rapidshare files in the event you can’t navigate the site.

*off topic* I want you guys to know that I love you. I can't post links because this is my first post so this is taking me 5x as long because I'm stupid and I keep pasting links then I have to go back and fix my post. . . *off topic*

      2) Setup the driver file in the right folders:
      - copy "x360wcffd.x64.dll", "x360wcffd.x86.dll", "x360wchm.sys", and "x360wcps.dll" (The dll and sys files)
      - paste them into \Windows\System32 and \Windows\SysWOW64

      3) Then to install go to device manager:
      - Select your XBox 360 controller device.
      - Select this and choose to update the driver.
      - Select the driver from \Windows\SysWOW64.

      4) Configure the controller:
      - NOTE: Now for the tricky part, if I do it this way I can get it to work each time so pay attention!
      - Open the application that came with drivers.
      - Bottom right of taskbar > right-click controller > Properties
      - Play around in the Settings Profile to test it (see that triggers are mapped to buttons and force feedback works)
      - Go to the Directional Pad tab and change the functions to (None).
      - Go to the Thumbsticks tab and change the Right Thumbstick functions to (None).
      - Go to the Advanced tab and change Functions and Tick Advanced Settings > "Based on the center" for Z Axis and Z Rotation.
      - Go to the Buttons tab and change Xbox "Guilde" Button to Button 32.
      - Change the ring of light setting to what ever you want (something to indicate that the controller is on). I chose "Flash then stay lit 1." This will not tell you battery power of controller, but you can always plug in your play and charge kit and continue to play if you suspect the battery is low ^^

      - Apply your settings!

      5) Finish the setup:
      - Open FFXI Config Utility
      - General Tab > Gamepad Settings
      - Setup the buttons to how you want and disregard Movement, Camera, and Menus for now.
      - Start with Movement and setup through FFXI Config Utility.
      - Test Gamepad, it should work.
      - Go to the Thumbsticks tab and change the Left Thumbstick functions to Slider 1 / Slider 2 > Apply.
      - In FFXI Gamepad settings config your Menus.
      - NOTE: Now would be a good time to setup PlayOnline's Gamepad if you use it.
      - Go to the Thumbsticks tab and change the Left Thumbstick functions to X Rotation / YRotation > Apply.
      - In FFXI Gamepad settings config your Camera.
      - Note: I'm sure you are already ahead of me if you are testing this out but I'll post the rest for the others.

      6) Normalize the Controller:
      - In the 360wc config, change the following
      - Go to the Thumbsticks tab and change the Right Thumbstick functions to X Rotation / YRotation.
      - Go to the Directional Pad tab and change Functions to Slider 1 / Slider 2.
      - Adjust the force feedback if you'd like. Note the ffxi config will probably give you a really weak feedback vibration test but it worked great in game for me fighting buggards, etc.
      - To remove Rumble pad bug, Controller Schemes tab > Test force Feedback > Slider to Max > Press "OK"
      - In FFXI Gamepad don't click any directional control button!
      - Press Test Gamepad, everything should work!
      - Press "OK" and Save that crap!

If this didn't work, you may have so many 360 Controller drivers setup you need to start over. This has been tested several times through several setups and several PCs. I hope this can help you. No animals were killed in the making of this guide. . .

Re: Xbox 360 Controller on PC FFXI - HOWTO

I wonder if anyone could assist me. I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and I am having issues getting my wired Xbox 360 controller to work properly. All the buttons work, but the triggers are non-responsive. I have tried a few different programs, but unfortunately I am still unable to get everything to work properly.

I can currently play on my Xbox 360, but playing on PC is so much nicer. The load times are severely reduced and everything runs smoother (without the slight hesitation whenever I zone).

Could anyone here possibly dumb it up for me or provide me an updated walk-through? I tried the one provided here and found more than one fault when trying to get things to work.

Re: Xbox 360 Controller on PC FFXI - HOWTO

Alright, So I felt like a genius when I found this new driver stated above... Got FFXI working perfectly how I remember it. (use to ps2 controller instead of xbox but thats a minor detail)

With one fix came one problem... This new driver seems to cause FFXIV to stop reading my controller's inputs all together so rather than having full controller for FFXIV and Trigger'less FFXI. I have full FFXI and NO FFXIV.

Re: Xbox 360 Controller on PC FFXI - HOWTO

            Hi guys

I am running a Sony Vaio with windows 7 on a 64 bit system.

I have loaded and XDCB 0.2.7 and installed it as administrator and loaded in the certificate.

The emulator opens and I have setup my wireless xbox controller.

I have opened up POL config utility and set up controller.
I have also opened up the FFXi config utility and set up my controller on that as well and it all the tests show that it is working fine on all buttons etc.

When I run POL my controller works however when I run FFxi and try to play the controller doesn't function at all.

Any ideas guys? Have I missed doing something?

            Please help..

            Many thanks

Re: Xbox 360 Controller on PC FFXI - HOWTO

I hate to ask a stupid question but I'm trying to get my controller working and I have discovered that FFXI is trying to use an old virtual controller that I no longer have. I discovered this when I attempted to set up the controller for the game and it was unresponsive. When I attempted to set up the controller for Play Online it gave me the option of which controller to use and once I selected the correct controller for Play Online it responded.

How can I get the config utility to revert to the correct controller when I try to configure it?
