  • dropped my ps2 -___-

so I was unhooking it, so I can set it up on the computer, and it was in the POL Viewer, and accidently dropped it about a foot from the floor. and as i went to shut it down, it shut itself and the viewer went off. i made sure it'd b go back on, and it did but then i went to the browser, and my HDD didnt show up. :E

so i've been trying over and over to reattach it constantly, but no luck. am i completely screwed? do you think its the ps2 or the hdd that's fucked up? like the ps2 can't read it, or the hdd is broken? nothing seems wrong with either, nothing broken, nothing lose. what the hell am i gonna do? -_-

Well, if you can play other games on the PS2 and you can view the browser, I'd say the PS2 is ok. My son's has been dropped about a dozen times and its still going.....which I consider a miracle. lol The HDD is another story. Hard drives do not like any type of jaring. When you dropped it did the back end, where the hdd is, hit the floor first? It doesn't sound promising thats for sure. If you aren't good with tinkering with electronics then do not open up the hdd. If you can afford to have it fixed, then take it in. If not try and find someone that is a good tinkerer and have them take a look at it. If it doesn't work and you can't afford to have it fixed, it certainly isn't going to hurt to give it a shot.

My PS2 was dropped down a flight of stairs and into a mirror. It struggled afterwards, and died soon after. They just weren't meant for manhandling.

ugh, stupid url blocker. Anyways, your hard drive is mostly dead. you can get a cheap one nowadays and just reformat it with your PS2 disc anyway. Check newegg, 40gb hard drives are really cheap nowadays

Huh? Last time I checked, the PS2 HDD has a strange and unusual connector configuration that lets it hook into the back end of the network adaptor.

I don't think buying a separate HDD will suffice.

I dunno, I don't have the network adapter, but that looks like a standard IDE port to me. Were there different network adapters?

It does have the side panels to hold it in place better, but other than that, it's just a matter of reformatting it. Possibly placing a jumper here or there. The hard drive that comes with FFXI is just a Maxtor 5,400 rpm 40gb HDD.

Ya I got all gungho when the US HDD's came out and bought a 200gb hd and an enclosure to put it in. (Didn't want it just laying on the top of my PS2.) Talk about a reality check. /sigh The hd is in my hubby's puter now where it can actually be put to use.

                          Re: dropped my ps2 -___-

There are a few hard drives out there that boast being able to withstand so hard a drop but if you read the fine print on even those it is for a non running hard drive. The hard drive in mine is like stated before by Exershio, Maxtor 40 GB running at 5,400 rpm. Don't know if it will take a faster drive or not though. If it doesn't good luck finding a hard drive that runs that slow.

I can tell you know, they may fix PS2, but that not a PS2 problem, when your PS2 hit the floor, you ruined the harddrive, and you will need another one.

When it impacted, the hard drive needle most likely scratched and what else knows what, onto the hard drive disk. Long story short, that HDD is now a paper weight.
