This is a like to the whole thread. It's going to be Wednesday evening before I'm going to be trying these drivers to see what happens.

It'd be nice to know what specifically these are supposed to address. I'll see about giving these a try tonight, but I won't know what to test. I know there's Bard song/firaga lag, WotG area gamma weirdness (which I don't get anyway), and general stability (which has never been a problem for me). Are there other nVidia-specific known issues?

General graphical slow down. In XP I can have 29FPS in areas not very highly populated and have it go down to 10-12 where it is. The problem was exasperated in Vista, where 15fps was the norm and populated areas went down regularly to 2-5fps.

In the most recent interview, SE said they were finally able to get nVidia to admit it was their problem.

I say this is the latest RMT plot to steal accounts, install this and say bye bye to your account!! It's very suspicious nVidia would finally release a fix for this.

But then again I don't use nVidia cards anyway.

About the drivers not finding your card on your laptop, this isn't strange. OEM's often change the cards ID so that they are the only supplier of drivers for it. If you want to go through and mod the drivers INF to find mobile platform chips this http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=171843 might help.

Double Edit: Can't find the files they said to mod for them on either the desktop or the laptop. And of course, nVidia doesn't give you support for laptops and points you to the manufactor's website -.-;

about the only thing that works on GeForce 4 MXs are a hammer. although I've heard good things about blowtorches, that might be out of your budget.

Download the files and run the exe. Watch where it puts the temp files. The INF should be there.

Don't mean to necro or anything, but I've been using these drivers for sometime now and so far I've seen a drastic improvement. No drop in FPS from weather, spells, songs, or being near a crag. Still get lag from being around large amounts of people (i.e. Whitegate), but before them ppl load to screen fps is capped. As far as playing ffxi goes, these drivers seem to be right on key.

I will admit I havent don't much testing with other games/app as of yet, but Sims2 still runs perfect on my machine, GTA: VC is flawless still, and that's about the only other 2 games I've played within the last 2 weeks.

I haven't tried Sims 2 in a while, but I used to download all sorts of stuff for that, there was always lag somewhere lol. I think it sounds like something only adressed for ffxi players. I didn't know anything about this thread and just installed a GeForce6200 not long ago though, so thanks for the necro.

I am finding it strange that if I have shadows enabled, in areas like Whitegate, right outside the MH, my FPS drops to around 25.

I am playing with overlay resolution set as high as possible, but you'd think there wouldn't be any slowdown in FFXI on a rig that can run Crysis maxed out.

I use the 169.09 Beta drivers through-- so, I'm going to download the newest one (169.21)-- these "fixes" are still in effect for that one, right?
