Well I've looked all over through various vista threads on different forums, but I've yet to see my problem specifically.
I have the a version of the game that I bought in 2004 that included "Bonus Rise of the Zilart" expansion, and separate CoP and ToAU afterwards.
Before knowing about needing to download the Vista version of PoL, I installed everything from the disks. I ran into no complications while installing, but had a crash error when trying to start PoL, and went on from there. I downloaded the new PoL, and installed it, without uninstalling the 3 FFXI versions. After re-installing the vista version of PoL, it worked fine, updated, put my account information in, and began updating FFXI. But I thought to configure it before updating, so I cancelled the update and ran the config tool, which is where my problem began.
"Final Fantasy XI Config has stopped working"... a problem has caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
So I searched for this error, found nothing. Uninstalled the expansions, FFXI and PoL again, and followed it with a PoL installation, and installed the basic FFXI (none of the 3 expansions) just to see if the config would work. Same error. But PoL and everything else works. I'm currently installing the last two expansions (no WoTG yet) to see if that makes any difference. Further than that I am lost. I'm thinking of setting the config how I will want FFXI to run on the laptop from the other computer, and simply copying the PoL folder from the desktop to the laptop, since PoL, FFXI and all 3 current expansions will have been added to the registry, but even then, until I do the update, I do not know if FFXI will even run, if the config program will not.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Or should I search high and low for a vista compatable version of the game off a store shelf, and start from there?
Thanks for any input.
