  • Serious Help Please!

Hello everyone! I just downlaoded the patch and my computer REFUSES to run final fantasy properly! Im so upset right now i have no comments lol. Im running on a quad core processor, 2gb of ram, and 8600gt. I do not understand why my game is laggy to the point where i cant even scroll through my items, in an area like the highlands. Yes i am also running on Vista and i know there has been some issues but i thought that square had fixed most of them. I was able to play the game before this patch with only minor problems. I did still lag but NOTHING compared to what it is now. Please anyone im disperatly asking for some help. Thanks

I know this could be one of the most frustrating suggestions since most people do this first when they have a problem or they've been told this a lot...

Suggestion: Reboot maybe (if you haven't already done so).

Sorry I couldn't help any further.

Vista is a very very huge resource hog, but it sounds like you have a powerful computer, so FFXI shouldn't be intolerably slow. Are you running full-screen? A lot of users have complained about extremely poor performance from running FFXI windowed post-update. Also, 8600 is not well supported by FFXI, there are many threads on a certain other forums about issues relating to the 8600.

The patch broke something implementing windowed mode, even if you don't use it. The fix seems to be unplugging any USB keyboards, and possibly other USB input devices, while running FFXI. That leaves you SOL if your computer doesn't have P/S2 ports and you don't have a P/S2 keyboard though.

Hahaha i guess that is what messed up im going to try updating my usb drivers. I unplugged all my devices that are USB and i was back at 30fps. But who the hell still has a PS2 device ahah I have the ports but my mobo is still rocking AGP hahaha... Oh well hopefully new USB drivers will fix this but not sure my mobo has any out. Well now that i know it is not my comp and SE. I can go to bed and play another day.

Same friggin problem man. Game went from playable to unplayable in the matter of 3 hours ... what an AWESOME patch! I guess if I just move in slow motion... the game will go normal speed? Bah

EDIT: Same system your running, only 4 gigs of ram instead of 2. Would be nice if someone knew what broke it for us. Apparently I need to go send SE a copy of windows vista and a decent video card so they can understand what they're doing to the lot of us.

Same thing happened to me. I use USB controller adpater+keyboard too.

If you use Windower (not the new windowed mode) there doesn't seem to be an issue though...
